Hi

I have come across a source known as alt.binaries.mame and various others (a neo geo one as well) which I believe contains lots of information about Mame related issues and was enquiring if any of you guys knew how to subscribe to this newsgroup?

Like any newsgroup you just need a newsgroup reader.

There's two routes.  For only text based just use google groups.
If you want access to binary files you need ot have access to a news server that allows it (your ISP might have one). Then use this.

Heh, since it is the binaries newsgroup we know what you are trying to go after...

Yep, when I'm not trawling in alt.binaries.erotica.mamecabs.goldenshower I do like to peek into alt.binaries.emulators.mame from time to time.

Seriously though, have you ever looked at some of the names of the adult oriented newsgroups? Some of the names alone make me feel violated, it always surprises me that people like Verizon provides this stuff to anyone that can figure out how to use a newsreader.

hi guys

Will check out the link supplied SirPoonga thanks, it does not seem that straight forward to sign up to these news groups. I am interested in the binaries news group in particular but live on a university campus, which means I do not have an ISP.

Any suggestions on how I would subscribe to the best news group for binaries?

Thanks in advance

Lea

You need to find a news server that supports binary file transfer.  And the news server has to have the group you want to get to.

Your university might have a news server.  But realize, news servers are not anonymous.  The school can monitor what you are doing, if they have abem group :)

Look... the EASIEST way to get what you looking for from news groups is to use
http://www.easynews.com

they are GREAT!
All web interface (so you dont need any news ready proggies)... heck.. you can even ZIP a bunch on binaries into your personal zip queue and then just download one zip file... its $10 for 10 Gigs a month (and your gigs roll over, kinda like cell phone minutes).
