« on: June 10, 2005, 07:12:32 am »
Great game so far, theres alot of cool new things and the areas seem much bigger then anyother.

Great graphics when driving fast kinda like NFS blured effect ,this is my first look at this title how does it compare to the consoles?

I just got this the other day and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Just driving around watching the random stuff go down is a full game in itself. This just happened to me today:

I was tooling around on a bike when this taxi nearly plows into me. He's weaving all over the road, hitting cars, meanwhile a cop car is in hot pursuit. I ditch the bike and take a car because I wanted to follow the chase and see what happened. The cop car is right behind the taxi, and the taxi tries to take a corner too sharply. He clips the curb and is bounced across the road into a building. The cop car then plows into the taxi, and both drivers hop out and start shooting at eachother. Meanwhile, all the other cars that were hit along the way fly into the scene, smashing into everyone, trying to get sweet AI revenge.

I get out and sit back to watch, but a group of Ballas spot me and start shooting. They accidentally hit the cop though, and so he switches targets and starts going after Ballas. He kills all but one, the Balla then steals the car I pulled up in and takes off, with the cop in hot pursuit. By this point the scene on the street is this huge pile of cars and at least 20 peds melee'ing it with bats and knives and guns.

The funniest part though was the whole time, there were about 5 kids sitting on their bikes watching the whole scene go down, ringing their bells like some hood version of Children of The Corn.

I must have this game. I'm getting the xbox version. I've never played this series on a console and I want to try it. :)

Did they ever improve the "out of the car" parts since GTA3? The driving parts were terrific but running around and shooting felt really clunky. Low point of an otherwise great game. (I'm talking about the PC version here. Haven't played it on any consoles so I really can't comment on those)

They've improved the auto-aim signifigantly.  Now it's semi-intelligent and will lock on to threats first instead of whoever's closest.  Other than that, it's pretty much the same on foot.

Well I've installed it, but having probs redefining keys.  I always use the numerical keypad for ALL games: 5-Up / 2-Down / 1-Left / 3-Right etc...  However I can't seem to 'assign' the number 5 key, it's as if the game doesn't support it (which would be a first for any game I've played)

Anyone help out?  It's no real biggie as I can obvious move over to other side of keyboard and just use W,S,A,D etc.. but just prefer to use Numerical keypad.

Cheers guys

Today in SA i ended up getting into an area i wasen't supposed to be in and found a helicopter, so i'm flying along when a jet fighter shoots a missile at me and i'm going down, (what a surprise that was to see)i jump out of the copter(from above the clouds) and free fall into the concrete (splat) and right on time for a cop car to run me over.  ;D

That jet should be fun to fly one day.

Now iv played most of the gta series but watching my mate play the latest version on the ps2 many months ago when it was out it didnt seem that interesting but listening to your stories its sounds like a real laugh.

I love random thing like Joystick Jerk's story so might have to have a blast on it after all.

That jet should be fun to fly one day.

You can actually get into a Lear-style jet early in the game. Even though the main guard at the Los Santos airport won't let you in until you've taken a flying course later in the game, the wall right around the gate is fairly low and you can scale it if you park a car up against the wall. Once you're on airport grounds, you can then access the Lear Jet as well as a Cessna.

But go dowtown first and go to the roof of the tallest building. There's a parachute up there that you can use if you ever need to bail from the jet at 500 feet.

Oh, and be carefull about where you fly. Early in the game when the other two landmasses are blocked off, if you fly over there you'll instantly get a three star wanted level which will bring out the missile firing Harrier Jets.

You really only need this one game as it has all the major parts to make a game great, shooting, driving, flying, missions, huge free roam citys.

Heh, funny after three 3d versions of this game it still looks like crap.

The gameplay is fun I guess, but nothing you haven't already seen in gta3 or vice city.

All I can say is ps2 fans must be hard up for games if they call this one impressive.  ;)

Agreed, which is why I hate sony.  They get exclusive liscenses which force devleopers to make the crappiest platform the main port.  I figure gta games would even have improved gameplay if the main port was on the pc, or even on the xbox.  And better graphics go without saying.

I think Rockstar knows this now, as they've stated that San Andreas is the last version of GTA to run on a modified version of the original GTA3 engine. Wherever they take the series next, they're rebuilding the engine from the ground up to take advantage of all the newest bells and whistles.

Still, I would expect any GTA game, old or new, to lag slightly behind what current tech offers. They offer so many different forms of gameplay in a giant seamless cityscape that coding it to use the absolute newest graphical standards would bring a computer/console to its knees.

Rockstar is limited to what the console can render, and the PC version is only slighly better looking because if they made it much better then the consoles it would hamper the console sales.

Bull..

Although the differences between the PS2 version of GTA: San Andreas and prior iterations of the GTA series are noticeable, the difference between the PS2 and Xbox versions of San Andreas is immense. Feature-wise, Xbox

I agree the XBOX and PC versions are better, but if it wasen't on the consoles they could have made a far better game just for PC, the point is they couldn't because Sony had the main rights witch made anyother verion of SA have to suffer, they had to go on the base program that was made for PS2 and tweaked it a bit for the PC.

I'm not so sure the graphics could have been far better without sacrificing draw distance, size of the worlds (without those stupid PC style "stop here while we reload" messages), etc.

I guess it's possible, but it'd be pushing it I would think.

Not that I wouldn't love to see a GTA:SA with some of the crazy graphics they have for pc games. (which I refuse to play 'cause I don't want ot have to buy a new $200 graphics card every year to play the latest games, but that's a whole other discussion!)..  ;) ;D

I got it on xbox, and am totally loving it. Driving with the controller is so much more fun than with a keyboard and mouse. Combat would of course be better on the PC.

I hate the placement of the black and white buttons on the xbox controller though, since it makes drivebys EXTREMELY difficult.

Load times are not really an annoyance.
