im scare!! try to discharge my monitor..

ok, i try to take out my monitor to rotate it..anyway i tried to discharge it first..when i put the screw driver under anode and touch the two pins..i dont hear any zap sound or see any spark...is the monitor discharged? i dont want to put my hand on it yet..cause i think the monitor has not discharged...

Normally you don't have to discharge the monitor if you are just rotating it (removing it from the cab and putting back in).  The only time you should be discharging is when you have to switch the yolk lines or removing the PCB from the tube.

BTW: most monitors have a natural discharge circuit, so most times I don't get any zap at all...Only on my older japanese nano monitor do I get a zap everytime.

You should be able to succesfully take it out and rotate it without needing to discharge it. Just make sure you only handle the frame and you'll be fine.

I haven't gotten a zap from the monitors I've worked on. You should have to discharge,t hough. Like everyone else said, just disconnect all the harness wires and the power and pull that sucker out. As long as it has a frame (and 95% of monitors do) you'll be just fine.

thanks..what a huge relief..anyway..i put the screwdrive near the tube i can hear sound..it sound like you pour water on a hot metal..kind of like sizzling sound..but when i put it under the rubber cub and touch the pins..i dont hear anything...
if i try to remove the pcb..do you think my monitor has discharged from what i described above..btw..my monitor is Wells Gardner 25K7139..i think its pretty old..so it probably doesnt have any selfdischarge function in it..i saw a sticker on the tube that has a date: June 20 90..

Are you removing the chassis from the monitor to move it? You don't have to do that. Or are you talking about removing the game board?

If you've got a wire running from that screwdriver to a ground and then stick it up under the suction, you ought to be fine. I'd recommend doing it once, waiting for about 10 or 15 seconds, and then do it a second time. That way any extra charge is removed. It's just a double check.

I also recommend plugging your vertical game into your monitor before you rotate. That way you know which direction to rotate it.

Then you can unplug the game board from the monitor again and turn it the proper way.
