Corel Products
« on: June 07, 2005, 12:26:41 pm »
Does anyone work with any of the Corel products?  They are a heck of a lot cheaper and from what I've read easier to learn to use for beginners.

Do any of their products allow vector like Illustrator?

Do you know if you can export a finished product to Adobe formats?

Thanks!

I don't know about the exporting (I doubt it) but they do have a vector prog. IIRC, it's called CorelDraw.

Yeah, Coreldraw is great.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I use both Illustrator and Corel Draw daily.

I can get a legitimate new copy of Creative Suite 12 in an academic version for about $80.  Beats the heck out of anything from Adobe.  Since I'm new to all these art programs and I don't want pirated software it seems like a good deal.

I was curious about Photo Paint (since I always use PhotoShop) and was wondering if it could export to PhotoShop.

I just tested it and Corel Photo Paint 12 has a PhotoShop export option that seems to work pretty well.

At work I mostly use Corel Draw 12, even though we have the full Adobe CS2 Suite. That said, I can't stand any of the other program in the Corel Suite- PhotoPaint is a poor PhotoShop wannabe- but if I have to do anything involving vectors, I'll stick with CorelDraw.
Nothing can touch PhotoShop for raster jobs, and the world knows it. But I've never seen a program that blends vector and raster components so easily as CorelDraw.

I personally like Corel's docker interface much better than the Adobe death-by-a-thousand-tiny-windows approach.  I think the Corel products are also easier to use.  Fortunately I have both in my office, so I'll sometimes rough things together in Corel and finish them for publishing in Adobe.  For small screen-only raster work I always use Corel.

Corel also gives you a ton of fonts and clipart that Adobe doesn't.

Oh yeah.  Corel Rave is fun and imports no problem from Coreldraw.  I agree, Photopaint works fairly well but Photoshop just kills it.  I use Coreldraw and Photoshop most of the time.  I've found using Corel to be much easier than Illustrator.  But I've also used it a lot longer.

So is Paint Shop Pro any better than Photopaint?
