Any ebay experts? Need advice.
« on: June 01, 2005, 04:19:53 pm »
I won a Dreamcast lilttle over a week ago. Supposedly working with all cables, 2 controllers, and 4 games. Price was $20 plus $5 shipping (I think I won because the seller only accepts money orders or checks). I received and invoice within 12 hours, but the shipping on the invoice was $8. The original description said $5 (still does). So I sent him a message asking him to clear it up. I even alluded to the idea that I would pay the $8 shipping if needed (as it's still a good deal in my book). I have yet to receive a response and I have emailed him every day since (9 days). I'm inclined to wait him out and see if perhaps he has a good reason for not responding (his feedback is 16 with 1 neutral and no negatives over a span of 3 years).

Any advice? I really want this dreamcast.

Did you reply to the address that the invoice came from or the address provided by ebay (or were they the same)?

Both, I think. Sent emails to the address provided with the invoice and messages through the "contact member" in his ebay profile as well.

Request his contact info from eBay...
Then you'll have his phone # & you can call him.
If he's forgotten (it doesn't sound like he does a lot of eBaying) a phone call should wake him up.

But I wouldn't pay until I hear back from him at least.
I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

Thanks. I'll do that.

Based on his lack of response, I would have to say that I wouldn't pay him at all.  Guys like that may eventually come around and mail your stuff, but you aren't his first priority and you will get screwed.

I am guessing he may be kicking himself for selling it for too low a price and may be ignoring you.

It's not a great deal if you don't have a communication path and you don't get your stuff....

Got a reply back finally. He apologized for the delay in reply but said it was beside the point; that I should have sent the money anyway.  ::) He also said yes - $8 for shipping. Against my better jusgement, I'm going to roll the dice and send it out. Let the flames begin.

you should pay via paypal so your covered in case you do not get the item or it is not exactly what you ordered. If you want when you pay you can deduct the $3.00 in the discount section.  and note that the total for shipping is only $5.00 as per auction. He cannot back out of that. if he does than you can refer to ebay to make him sell it to you at the price. remember it is a legal contract. he is basically doing a bait and switch tactic. up to you if you want to pay the $3.00 or not. I think you should not.  You should not pay for his error.

I agree with you. My fear is this. He does not accept paypal. This is probably why I got a good deal on it. So I send the $25 instead of $28 in a money order, he might not send the item and I'm out $25. If I send the $28, there is no real reason for him not to send it.

paypal is the worst invention ever...

i am out 310 dollars because i sold my fiance's laptop and some guy tried to upgrade it and broke the screen 3 months after I had sold it to him. He started a chargeback with his credit card company, and of course they gave it to him... i have no laptop and no money now...and my paypal account is -310... paypal can collect their money that visa stole for that guy... i upheld my end... paypal is a nightmare... always find an alternative... it's great until you meet one idiot...then it's a nightmare...
