CANADA SUCKS!

Hi  Canada,

I don't feel that way at all.  I just really wanted the Canadians to look. 

You see, I acctually would like to visit and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on the best vacation spot in Canada.  I live in Los Angeles and get the ocean view/ beach experience whenever I want.  What I don't get (and prefer) is the georgeous trees and wildlife.  I was thinking Vancouver or Niagra Falls.  I'm a true city dweller so I don't  want a camping spot, I just like to walk in the trees.

Any thoughts?

Yep, I would go to Calgary and then Baniff.  There are lots of trees and mountains to go see PLUS there are lots of 4-5 star hotels you can stay in while your there.

Niagara Falls is good for a day trip.  After that, its very boring

If you want a bit of cultural and a good party, then I would fly into Toronto, spend a couple of days visiting Toronto and the area (Niagara Falls is only 2 hours away)  Then travel to Montreal via the train.  There's lots to see and do in Montreal plus it has a GREAT Night Life!!

Baffin is an island in the north west territories. Mabey you mean banff.
               My advice, don't come to edmonton. There is nothing great about west edmonton mall. Try the rockies or newfoundland.

If you really want gorgeous forest, I would suggest the Canadian rockies.  Northern Quebec has a lot of that, too.   PEI is way too commercial to be truly Canadian, the whole stupid island is dedicated to getting money from LM Montgomery fans.  PEI is more than 3000 miles away from you, too.

I've always wanted to hit the Northern Territories, particularly what is now Nunavut.

If you want Canadian nature at its best, rent a cottage in the Muskokas.  It's not really camping, since some of the cottages you can get are as nice as any house, but you could sure walk through some trees!

(Just don't go before the end of July or you'll lose about 20 lbs of flesh!!)

Thanks guys, this is great.  My wife and I checked out Calgary online and it really looks like what we want to do.  I would have never thought of it.  It seems like a fun city to check out and still go out for the day in the mountains.  I also like the availabilty of nice hotels.  We wouldn't want to go someplace smaller than that, it seems just right. 

So are there any specific suggestions for calgary and of course is there an arcade that needs to be seen.

We like historic sites, walking around pretty places in a relaxed atmosphere and shopping if there is something unique to the area.  When we went to Vancouver, it was great walking around the city for a while and then stanley park in the same day.  We also just liked the people.  It's really more about getting out of LA and just walking around a cool place we haven't been to where the people are nice.  In LA we have access to just about everything but the environment is what it is.

Vancouver is awesome... plus its only a short drive to Whistler or one of the local coastal mountains.

I think that's a statistical anomaly due to the fact that many times it's hard to tell the difference.

Just got back from a swing through alberta and into BC (kelowna) what a fantastic place and very different than suburbia--ton of small towns, no major highways so its a pretty leisurely lifestyle and about 100 or so wineries in the immediate area with free samples (get a DD, you'll enjoy it more).  There's also hiking pretty much anywhere if you are into that sort of thing and the scenery is great.

We were only in calgary the one night so we didn't see much but it seemed like any other city from what we could tell.  I've also spent a week in vancouver and loved it there as well.  the "scenery" on the beaches was outstanding and they had bars just across the sand so you didn't even have to leave your beer to check it out

Being from the Pacific Northwest (seattle) I've spent a lot of time in Vancouver BC and the much of western canada.  Victoria is quaint and cute and has a very british flair (and a bit touristy), whistler/blackcombe is OUTSTANDING skiing and has great stuff to do during the summer, along with several very nice resorts to stay at and explore.

Vancouver BC has a gigantic in city park (Stanley Park) very diverse ethnically (it's nicknamed Little Hong Kong by the asian community round here), great museums, excellent restaurants and hotels and is the future site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.  You're no more than a 1/2hr to an hour drive from some beautiful sights and outdoor adventures, with enough time to come back and hit the town for some dinner and nightlife.  They also have a summer long Shakespeare festival at a park along the waterfront if you're into that sort of thing.

If I ever had to leave the US (or chose to for other reasons) Vancouver BC would be my first choice....

Banff, the NW Territories are gorgeous and have a lot of eskimo/indian cultural things to see.  There is plenty of hiking/biking and some small towns.

This is almost like Fark ...

If we look at which provinces receive equalization payments (e.g. are supported by other provinces), only two are excluded -- Alberta and Ontario. Care to guess which of those two provides the bulk of the support ? (Hint: It ain't the province of my birth where I attend the Stampede).

It's more a case of Ontario supporting the rest of the country, except for that one Western province that seems to have its' stuff together.

For travelling (and I realize that the original trip would have been undertaken long ago), I love Quebec City, Kelowna, Calgary, Banff, Whistler, 1000 Islands, Near-North Ontario (Muskoka, Hailburton).
