MAME DOS GPF Help
« on: May 27, 2005, 10:04:08 am »
I've searched this forum, looked on the http://www.mameworld.net/dosmame/ pages and Googled, but cant get dmame.exe running on my P2 400, 64Mb RAM.

I'm running DOS 6.22 and have tried a number over different releases of dmame.exe, from the latest, back to 0.55, but I get a General Protection Fault every time, regardless of the exe version and the ROM I try to run.  I even get a GPF if I just try to run dmame /? at the command line, so I've discounted soundcard problems (I have tried -soundcard 0 too).  There is nothing in my config.sys and I have a very basic autoexec.bat file.

Suggestions? (please).

What happens with DOS 7.0?  From Windows 98SE?  You can get it from http://www.bootdisk.com

A GPF is DOS can easily come from two sources:
IRQ / Address Space Conflicts
and RAM.

I would suggest going into the BIOS and turning off PNP OS Enabled and looking at what gets assigned.
Then audit your config.sys and autoexec.bat to see what conflicts you get.

Keep us posted.
Nothing witty here...move along.

I just tried booting from a W98SE boot floopy and running dmame, same result.
