It's nice to have help when you do these things.  I have trouble getting simple crap done like painted rooms because I can't even get someone to keep an eye on my kids while I do all the work, nevermind help with the work.

I agree... If my dad didn't help me on that HUGE project, I didn't even start it  :-\ I have no experience about all the things to do for such work...

What I've found works is to give my daugter a project of her own to do. I just pick something that doesn't matter if it's messed up and let her have at it. For example while I was painting the toy chest I built for her, I had her right beside me painting the tray that fits inside it. She did a nice job of it too - acrylic paint is very forgiving! As long as you keep an eye on the safety aspects it's a fun thing to do. You get to spend quality time with your kids and they get a kick out of being able to say "Daddy and I made that" instead of "Daddy made that for me"

Yeah, and that's great when you're painting.  I do that when it is safe to do.  Much of the work I do is with electricity, power tools, and sharp edges.

I'd love to give my kids projects.  Problem is I've got two kids with completely different needs.

My oldest is five, can follow instructions very well, is highly intelligent.  He taught himself to read (has some trouble with numbers though).  I actually like having him help out.

My middle child will turn three in Sept., but has some learning disadvantages.  His total vocabulary comes to about fifteen words.  If I have him around when I'm working, *nothing* gets done, because I'm chasing him around making sure he doesn't kill himself on something.

Sure I could.  Then I'd have him screaming at me the whole time because he can't go anywhere.

Every time someone mentions a child leash I can't help but think of the Saturday Night Live skit where Mike Myers was leashed to a Jungle Jim (and also wearing a helmet).  Kim Basinger gives him a chocolate bar and he goes so hyper he actually pulls the Jungle Jim out of the ground and goes running down Broadway with the Jungle Jim dragging behind him.  Funny Stuff.

Seriously, every time I've ever seen one of those leashes, I've wanted to slap the parent.  A child is not a dog and should not be treated like one.  They should also not be caged up in playpens and those little portable yard fences, either.  If you can't be bothered to watch your kids properly, don't take them anywhere.

I can totally see where Peale is coming from.  I have a 6 and a 3 year old.  They love to WATCH me work, but I'm not really confident in the ability to keep a close enough eye on them and do the work well at the same time.   I usually end up having them sit near me while I work on the cabs.

That was the best skit ever.  I always talk about that when I'm tipsy at a dinner party.  Wasn't it Nicole Kidman with him?

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure it was Kim Basinger, but it could have been Nicole Kidman.

How many machines do you have? Do you plan on putting them against the walls or putting them in rows? Or both?

Impressive!

Are you going to put insulation and air conditioning/heating? A wall unit should cover the whole space.

When I was in Belgium in the summer time, it was comfortable, but the winter's probably pretty brutal there.

Where I live is 35+ degrees C and 90+ humidity for three months out of the year. But it never snows.

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

I still have no idea about the position of the games now   ???

Here's the cab I have to place for the moment  :

- Dragon's Lair
- StarBlade
- Tron
- Gauntlet Legends / mame cab
- AB Cop
- NBA JAM tournament edition / Midway conversion kit

I guess I'll start with the Starblade in a corner...  :-\

In Belgium, there is not hot temperature like US... Do you think I really need to insert fresh air in the gaming room ?

Thanks for your comment  :P

You underestimate how much heat a room full of arcade machines can give off! You would probably need an A/C before you need a heater.
