The Lost Levels...
« on: May 17, 2005, 02:17:24 pm »
Hello,

I've been recently posting here and there, but I thought I would do something a little more formal.

This is my homage to Mario and Nintendo. This is in the concept phase, but far enough along to get some feedback and claim my place as first with this idea. (Unless someone points me to an older post) Seriously though It might wind up being appropriately named if I don't get any freetime soon...

Blue area would be a printed topper card and I would put some character compositions there. Also some typography split between that and the lighted marquee (Nintendo logo is a placeholder for now). Oh yeah, I want to render mario on top of the plastic warp pipes too and build it on a layer of those thin bricks used for trim in gas fireplaces...

Sweet idea!   I love seeing cabs that move outside the box

As a huge Nintendo fan, both consoles and general merchandise;  I love your idea. Honestly I if I wouldn't feel bad I'd want to *steal* the plans and make one of my own.  You've got my gears thinking. Maybe Not an arcade machine for me (my apt can't fit a 2nd), but some type of system stand for the classic consoles is what I could make. Thanks for the inspiration, it looks awesome in concept.

Can't wait to see progress and final design pics!

WOW!, looks like a great concept.
The pipes would be cool.

Very creative idea.

Is the control panel going to look like the NES controller?

I was thinking that could be the very basic route... but I love to try and push things when/where it makes sense. I like creating multi level designs so I will try and figure out a way to bridge a more complex control scheme with the theme I have going. I had a great way for graphically tying in some other themes on another project, so I'll see what my bag of tricks hold.

Appreciate the comments... makes it fun! I'll post more later after this initial feedback phase.

I've built some props out of EPS foam before.  It's really easy to creat brick and stone shapes.  You could make what you want and then coat it and paint it.

If you're interested I can point you toward some information.

Hey that looks like some really good stuff! Is that the same density as "yellow foam"  (product designers use for model making) or is it even better? If you have specific information to share about it or a reputable vendor I can talk with that would be great. I always like to learn about new materials for presentations, mock ups and other, more important things... like building arcade stuff ;)

Thanks!
