Blinded by the Light X & Y

Wraped up like a ..... err ..... duece.

Momma always told me not to look into the eyes of
the sun......but momma......  That's where the fun is.

This is a Project announcement/farewell.

You see I build my first cabinet, with no shortage
of help from this site, about 3 or 4 years ago.  She
has been a good cabinet and served me well, but sadly
it is time to make some changes.

Several lessons learned will go into the new cabinet.

First off when I built BBTL I used a lucid plan but I
had no measurements.  So I went by memory.  That turned
out to be a bad idea.  When the arcade bug first bit me
circa 1983 I was 13 and much shorter.  So long story short
using the oh the control panel comes about to here on me, I
would up with a cabinet taller than me and I'm 6'2".

Second I got all googly eyed about the amount of games I
could play.  Thousands of real arcade games were at my disposal.
So I put two ultimates with 6 buttons and a comp USA clear
trackball in my control panel.  Now I could play thousand of
games, but none of them replicated the way the felt in the
arcade.

My new plan is;

2 Cabinets

Blinded by the Light X (Horizontal cab based on Joust Cab)

Blinded by the Light Y (Vertical cab in what else a Pac Man design)

I would like to do the following;

Swapable control panels with basic control sets for maximum arcade feel.

Control panels will fit both cabinets and I would like to use some kind of
plug mounted to the bottom of the  panel and the mate in the slot on the
cabinet (think laptop docking station)

I want all interfaces (optipac, ipac, gp49... whatever) to be contained
within the cabinet.

I hope to have smaller hard drives within the control panel which would
contain the OS, the front end, mame, and all the games that would play
on that particular control panel.

I don't know how difficult it will be to realize some of these things and I'm
sure I will be asking for advice on each front in the other areas of this forum.

So here goes.

I tripped the merry-go-round

By experimenting with Jakobud's drawings and fiddling with the angles a tad bit I was able to make a common control panel shape & size.

Now I can use the same interchangeable control panels in both cabs.

Cool, though I have to say I was hoping it was going to be an XY cab...  ;D
