Track & Field High Scores
« on: May 15, 2005, 11:50:56 pm »
This might be a stupid question, but...

I've reset the high scores using the dip switches, but they are so unbelieveably high that no one can possible attain them, which makes the game less fun....
Same thing for Hyper-Sports too!

Anyone have a work around?

I am using a hi-score dat, but am unsure which one it is....

Thanks,

Navigate to C:\Mame\hi

and delete the entry for the game you want to clear.

I don't think that will do the trick since C:\Mame\hi stores personal highscores.  He's referring to the default high scores.  Some are really high and nearly impossible to break.

You could try opening trackfld.hi in a hex editor and see if it makes any sense.

You find the default high scores tough to beat?  Stop slapping the buttons and practice the two or three finger button technique.

You'll easily beat those scores with this techinque.

Guess I'll just have to get better at the game...kinda sucks as most of the people who play aren't that great, it would just be fun to have their name up for a while...

Thanks

It works with microswitches.  PM me, I'll give you a technique that will let you own all the top scores (with the exception of that darn default 99meter javelin computer score.)

The only technique that really works for those scores is the 3 finger technique or if you cheat.  PM me your secret.

The only method I can use consistently is a single finger on a single button, and I tighten up the muscles in my arm so my hand shakes.  This will get me at least third place on 100M dash, up to first on Long Jump, and second or third on hurdles.  I can't touch javelin.  Hammer throw and high jump are just about timing.

Ha! This thread brings back some fantastic memories of playing T&F in college.  Friends of mine had a cabinet in their house one year--played the thing about a million times.

A sure-fire secret for speed is the "knife" method (is this the same as the '3 finger method?").  Not sure if this applies to your CP layout, but in the original (see pic), the Run buttons were about 6-7 inches apart.  If you took a butter knife (or other metal/hard plastic object) and placed it between your index and middle finger (with the rest of your fingers on top), it would serve as a fulcrum for the knife.  Striking the one side would hit run and then immediately bring the knife down on the other Run button for perfect timing...

Cheating? Possibly--if there were rules.

OK, when I was a kid, I used a pencil to hit the buttons fast...

However, I have 2 rows of 3 buttons straight across, so that is not an option...

What the heck is this 3 finger method?
