WHY a VERTICAL chassis!?!?!

WHY VERTICAL!?!?!

Nintendo is the only one that appears to require a verticle orientation.

I really like the black one.  And the white one, for that matter.  I think the silver one, which is the one they use for all their media releases, is the least attractive of the lot.

Why would they go through the hassle and extra costs of making their system compatible with 3 other hardware cartridge formats when they can do it cheaply via emulation? And why would they do that if all it enables is for people to go to the junk store and buy $5 carts which they get no profit from? OR for that matter, why would they do that and then have it limited to whatever old used stuff is out there... Do you know how hard to find alot of games are now? All this would make zero business sense. OF COURSE THEY WANT YOU TO "RE-PURCHASE" THE OLD GAMES.

If you have a collection of old cartridges, then you probably have an old console too. Why would you even need the Revolution to play those old carts?! Makes no sense to me. Obviously the consumer that they are targetting is those ones who DON'T have those old games anymore.

You're missing my point entirely.  I agree with what you are saying, but they should not be touting this as backwards compatibility.  Reggie himself has said Revolution will be "backwards compatible" with 20 years of Nintendo games.

No it wont.

Backwards compatibility is the ability of a console to read/play/execute older formats.  I can put a PS1 disc into my PS2 and it will play.

If I have to re-buy Nintendo games on the Revolution, that is EMULATION.  You may think its semantics, but it's really not.  There is a huge difference, and it only seems to me as a way to make us rebuy games we've bought dozens of times already.

Xbox seems the same way.  They are saying only top selling games will be "backwards compatible" but you'll need a special recompiled version.  If this proves true, are they going to give that away for free? No.. we'll be buying Halo all over again.  That is a port, or emulations, or whatever you'd like to label it as... but it is clearly NOT backwards compatibility.

As far as making profit, that IS NOT THE POINT of backwards compatiblitiy.  PS2 did it to enhance their initial library of games with their back catalog, and as a "perk" to their consumers.  They realize that it is nice for us as consumers to use one system to play older games.

Obviously, Nintendo isn't going to put in a NES/SNES/N64 cartridge slot on the Revolution.  We all know that, and know why.  That is all well and good, but don't call it backwards compatibility

it depends on what your definition of backwards combatability is,... it will be *able* to play any Nintendo game possibly in existance, isnt that backwards compatable enough?

i did say cartridges? isnt every game before the gamecube technically on a cartridge? so that means that the software/roms/game whatever was just stored data on a cartridge?

and please if you stop one thing stop raniting bout buying these games over  again, because there are alot of smaller gammers out today known as the next generation of adults, who have never played such games... that is why they are introducing them again, and again...

No other Company has continued to have games out for this amount of time, and still have new gamers that never played...

please think about others and not why it is/or isnt  appealing to yourself...

so just because me and you have played them before does not mean that others have shared the same experience... or hasnt missed a game in the franchise
so please understand this...

what goes around (NES,SNES,N64) comes around...(NES,SNES,N64)

PS2 used a lot of the same chips in the PS1 for differing uses, so it may have been partial emulation, but I know that a large part of the "original" hardware was actually in the PS2.  I don't think this is the case with PS3 tho, FWIW.

I won't argue semantics, so I'll stop after this, but I don't see downloading a game as backwards compatibility.  It's just getting another game.  To be backwards compatible, you'd be playing something that you already own and purchased, like those old cartridges you talk about.  Then it's backwards compatible, otherwise, its just another product you can buy.. which is fine.. just don't pretend it's something its not.

And I'm not "complaining" about old games.  I know full well that younger gamers never played most NES games... but ya know what... most of them aren't interested in them either.   As much as you and I might love Super Metroid, try to get your average 12 year old to play it today.... you won't.  There are exceptions, but I'm talking in generalities here.

I am *ABLE* ot play almost every game in existence on my PC right this very moment, and you won't see me saying my PC is backwards compatible with NES/SNES/GBA/N64/etc, so stop using that argument.  I'd sound like a tool if I said that, just like I think Nintendo sounds foolish saying that downloading old games makes it backwards compatible.
