FINALLY!
« on: May 13, 2005, 09:55:26 pm »
Well, as the post title says...

FINALLY!!!!! I have "completed" my cabinet.
This is for all of you guys out there thinking that it can't be done with what you know, or with what you have. Just friggin do it, man. It's worth it.
This cab isn't the prettiest, it isn't the most realistic, it doesn't have the biggest screen or a microcontroller conreolled autorotating monitor, but it is mine, all mine, yes MINE!!! Well, when the kids aren't playing it anyways...

Specs:
The machine.
AMD K62 500MHz processor
384MB RAM
SCSI CD ROM on an ISA Soundblaster (thing must be at LEAST 10 years old)
ATI Rage FuryPro 128
4.3GB HDD
Some nasty cheap---I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- motherboard I bought like 5 years ago.

The 'ware
Win98SE (Using DOS)
ArcadeOS 2.47
MAME 37b14
Dpad Pro

The Controls:
PSX MegaTap with 2 surplus controllers from the local used game store. Plugged into LPT1
Suzo 8-way sticks and Wico leaf buttons (all from Wico)
Serial mouse spinner made from junk I had laying around.

15" NEC LCD monitor.
Cheap --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- yard sale speakers

The Cab:

3/4" MDF shelving carved and routed into the appropriate shapes.
15/32 plywood that used to be the flooring on the 3rd floor of my house (see www.peoplebitchingaboutpreviousownersoftheirhomes.org for more info on THAT debacle)
Really cool lighted mouse from Xoxide.com
Some keyboard with all the letters almost worn off that I have no IDEA where it came from.

I painted it gray because I had paint leftover from some other things that I made for the room it will be going into.

Future plans include a real set of speakers, and some of that really cool EL wire to highlight the edges and give it the "Tron" look.

Congratulations! I like how you mounted the flat panel. Seems like it would be much better to get a way to turn the speakers out toward you though.

Thanks!

Actually, the sound isn't that bad. I had originally intended to mount the speakers through the font panel on either side of the screen, but didn't want to cut it up in case a larger monitor shows up. I put them in the back, and they sound OK. I guess the sound bouncing off the wall is good enough for now.
