Wells Gardner 4900 Tube Replacement (Pictures Added)
« on: May 13, 2005, 03:40:47 pm »
I am trying to restore an old cabinet I have lying around but the picture tube is blown out. I know its a 4900 series, it said 4903 on the side of the chasis. The picture tube says its an RCA 19VLTP22. I also saw a part number somewhere that said its a 19K4915. I really dont know what all of these numbers mean.

Should I get a completely new monitor, or try and find a new picture tube for this chassis? And does anyone know where I could find either for under $100.

Any help would be very appreciated!

You may be able to find a tube at a local TV shop that may work or a used 19 inch TV . This should be the cheepest alliterative. Or you can sell the chassis on eBay and put that money toward a new one. If you replace the tube Just make sure that it has the same number of pins on it, the same size tube, and the Resistance is the same on the yoke wires. You really dont want to replace the yoke and set the convergence on one unless you have alot of time and Patience.

also if you decide to get rid of the tube and yoke I an looking for a yoke for my 4900.

Ok I found a tube in an old tv, same make and model as the one I had in the arcade (what are the odds on that). I plug it in, nothing. I don't see a glow, i don't even see a flicker. I'm looking at all the fuses, and they all look good. I have a feeling that the whole monitor isnt getting any juice. I looked at the wires that plug into the monitor and it comes from this transformer. But the transformer isnt even plugged in. There are two wires comming from the transformer, and they dont go any where, they're just zip tied to the cabinet.

Any thoughts?

Thoughts?  Sure!  If there are wires that dead-end and go nowhere, of COURSE there is no power going to the monitor.

Get some pictures of the transformer here so we can see if it's an isolation transformer, pls.

This is the transformer

These are the wires from the transformer that lead to no where

This is the shot of the whole power section

I'm not sure what you call this, but I'm pretty sure the transformer should be plugged into this, but I'm not sure where.

Any new thoughts?

If you look at your power supply 4Th picture you should have a terminal marked AC (the black and white wires follow them to the terminal block. Now take the wires coming from your transformer and put them under the terminals that match ( White with white black with black) do this with power OFF. Now when you apply power to your machine your monitor should have power. (before you apply power unplug you video coming from your game board, this way if some thing is bad you will not do damage to it. If everything powers up OK than reconnect you video.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

But there are two problems that remain:
1. The anode keeps popping off
2. I get a very funky picture but that is due to the fact I just replaced the tube and I need to adjust the yoke and convergence rings.

How do I keep the anode on, and do i mess with the yoke while its still on or off.

Thank you so much already for all your help.

Give us a close-up pic of the anode and of the tube. the anode should clip into the tube unless one of the 2 pieces is broken. If your colors are ghosting you see red blue and green you adjust with the rings. The yoke should fit on the tube and clamp gently in place and should not need to be moved.

OK the anode problem is fixed, I just didn't know how to clamp it back on.

Now I need to fix the convergence rings. They dont do anything when I mess with them. I bring it up down and all around and the picture is the same. I wonder if I put it on right? Should I have taken the convergence rings off the tube that is in there now or the one that used to be in there? Do I need to degauss the monitor? I have a tape head demagnetizer, would that work as a degaussing wand?

Well here are the pictures.

This is the back of the tube

This is the picture I get now
