awesome job!

I like the real car seat...where did you get it?

Some suggestions:

1) Put a HUGE subwoofer under the seat to vibrate

2) Put seat belts in (even better if you can find the ones that stock car racers use)

3) Gear shifter

Seat came from a friends junkyard, think that one was a passenger seat from a minivan, got a second seat, from a Jeep.  Depending on how the car seat cover I ordered fits the seat could change, I hope not, like the one thats there, for now anyway.  I really want to use a seat from  www.racingseats.biz  but they only sell stuff in pairs and for the moment I dont want to spend the money.

I doubt I will get a shifter, the wheel has those butterfly shifter deals, you know, right behind the steering wheel, besides I drive stuff on automatic.. there I said it, cats out of the bag.

If anyone cares there are a few more pics at:

fl0yd,
You know, thanks for reminding me of that Monster Truck Madness race, you know, the track I practiced on for 3 days before setting you up with it, then you beat me our first race.  I realize that those Microsoft Force FeedBack wheels cost money, and I didnt break the controller, just the mounting part connects it to the desk.  I got something for your butt when we play Midnight Club 3:Dub Edition.  PS I still kick the crap out of you and Robotron and Donkey Kong, you failed to mention that.  For the record I was WAYYYYY out in front that race, just got stuck on some freaking hole, literally 50 feet from the finish line, what a horrible day that was.

Thanks to those that have made comments.

The piece of wood that has the clamp attached is nothing more that a piece of MDF.

Looking good! I've only got one question...

Is the steering wheel to far away? (Maybe I just drive like a grandma.)

The seat adjusts forward and backward, just like you were in a real car.  In the top pic the seat is AAAALLLLLLLLLLL the way back, but it goes very far forward also.  I drive pretty close forward, in fact its exactly 3 clicks from the most forward position for me, I am 5' 11".  Probably not that great for the severly vertically challenged.

hahah. thats fantastic!!!
you could even get a real steering wheel with a rack and pinion, and rig it up so when you turn the wheel; really hard the seat leans one way or the other to give you that authentic driving feel.

okay thats going overboard. great work so far, dont give up!

Give Up, Hell No!!!  I actually have come up with a template to cut a piece of wood that will frame in the steering wheel.  Shoul d be able to make that area look pretty good now.  I will be counter sinking all the screw holes  today and getting ready to route out the T molding grooves this weekend.  I expect to be painting shortly (Within 2 weeks).  My new biggest issue is how to turn on the damn TV.  Once the monitor bezel and smoked glass are in place I have to way to turn the thing on.  I can cut or drill a small hole in the bezel and use a remote control but I dont really want to do that.  I am thinking of getting my electrician buddy envolved, figure out a way to re route the on button to an arcade button and putting it somewhere easy to get to but out of the way.  I purchased a Smart Strip but it doesnt work with my TV of course.  Once I get the control panel area done I will stick up another pic.

There just aren't enough driving cabs I say!  Good show.   This morning I picked up a seat from a friend at work.  A pic is here its from a 96 Acura Integra.  But hey, this is about your project announcement, not mine.

Thats a good looking seat, if mine was that nice I would not have needed a seat cover!  Got any pics of the rest of your cabinet or is the seat part #1??  My big accomplishment yesterday was counter sinking all the screw holes in preperation for wood putty and paint.  Tomorrow is a big day.  Finally got my wood working friend to come over, we are gonna fix up some loose ends, cut out the piece to frame in my steering wheel and finish up the CP area, and if things really go well, we will cut the slots for all needed T-Molding.

Thanks.   Its just step one, I cut some boards for the base a little while ago, but no progress just yet.  I am gonna be in production for awhile.

I like your build picks in your photo bucket, they have helped give perspective.

Oh, try out midtown madness 3 if you haven't.

Other than sanding, painting and adding T-molding this baby is Done!!  I want to thank my friend Barry Nichols for helping me finish this thing up, you are the man.  Mike my neighbor for helping me fix my initial screw ups, and without question SFC Jim Seeger US Army for helping with the monitor shelf and initial framing, even with his arm in a cast he can handle mdf and tools better than me.

Hell yeah baby, that wheel is tight.  I plan to add some memory foam around the wheel where the mdf frames it in, because it would look great and there would be no cracks at all.

Hey that driving cab looks great! Only two things missing, a stainless steel roll-cage and a back seat to take the ladies.

Good work.

Got 2 sheets of the stuff they stock at Lowes.  $42 a sheet.  I think its just their "Blue" stuff.  Please note, if you get their laminate glue, read the instructions.  You put the stuff on both sides, then you allow it to setup for 10 minutes or so, then when you put the laminate down, brother, it is STUCK.
