WG 25K7197 Monitor Questions
« on: May 11, 2005, 09:45:01 pm »
I just picked up my new cab the other day, and it the process of stripping out some of the wiring I don't need, I started thinking about the monitor. The dealer included it free with the cab, and claims it still works.

It's a Wells-Gardner 25K7197 monitor, mounted in an MKII cab. There's some light burn in, but nothing that would really distract once it was turned on. My first question is whether I should bother keeping it for Mame gaming, or if it'd be better just to take it out and sell it to someone who only needs an older monitor. The second question is if there is any sort of market for an older monitor like this with light burn-in. Are there people that will buy something like this either to use or refurbish it? And if it is worth selling it, what do you guys think a fair price to ask for it would be?

Also, if anyone is possibly interested in this monitor, I'm in the Greater Vancouver area and all offers will be considered.

Personally I'd use it with your MAME setup. It will give you a much more real life feeling to your cab. And it's not all that difficult to interface  with a computer.

Well, I meant that if I replaced it, it would be with a D9200. I was just wondering if it was worth upgrading to the newer monitor, keeping the old one, or selling it off.

KEEP IT!!!!!!

Thats a great monitor and i have one myself which came with a little burn.If you can live with the burn definetly keep it.

The monitor tech I talked too says that older monitors are much better made than newer monitors. He even went on to say that he really prefers working on older WG monitor than the newer ones.

There are a few ways... are you looking for the cheapest or easiest route?

Easiest: Buy an ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc (along with a JPAC for a simple signal amplification solution and an easy way to hook up your controls). Plug it in and play. You can even use Linux, DOS or and any flavor of Windows.

Cheapest: Buy a video card that is capable of a 15khz signal (I used to use a Matrox G400) and use ADVMAME. If you have a JAMMA harness in your cab already, you'll have to rewire it, but a JPAC, build a loom or a JAMMA finger board. There are a whole host of other issues you have to deal with if you choose the cheap route, so hit Google and research, research, research.

I checked out Ebay for the Matrox G400, which should I use.  Does the Matrox G400 work just as good as the Ultimate Video card?  Thanks for the reply.

Look, if you are going to go the "cheap" route, be prepared to research. A lot.

Research before you buy ANYTHING. Seriously. Don't run off to buy a Matrox card because I said I used to have one.

You'll save time and money if you carefully research the solution best for you. Google for you.

this is just my opinion but i have had great luck with an ati rage II video cards. I use one in my vertical mame machine as we speak. I also have a breakout vga cable that i made and a keyboard hack....i use it basically for vertical mame games only. i have tried it on others and seems to work fine. But advmame is what i use in a dos situation. just my 2 cents advmame was a little long to setup but once completed i get perfect resolution for my games,.
