Inkjet printable CD/DVDs not quite as good as I'd hoped

I've had my Epson Photo R200 for a little while now and even printed like 50 disks or so.  I like the fact that all my DVDs come out looking uniform and not like the old Sharpie chicken scratch method I used to deal with but I kinda have a problem with the fact that even after a month of drying, a little bit of moisture and the ink just rubs right off!

The options that I've come up with so far are:
1. Put some sort of clear label over the ink
2. Clearcoat spraypaint
3. some crap they sell at the art store to stop even charcoal drawings from smudging

The clear lable doesn't realy make all that much sense to me because if I wanted to put something on the disk why would I have gone for the inkjet printable disks in the first place right?

Spraypaint I think may be a good idea but I'm a tad bit worried about chipping and also about making the disk off ballance

the crap from the art store was suggested by my sister who was realy into art in highschool and I don't have any information on it other than it sprays on...  Sounds kinda like spraypaint to me. 

So is there anyone else who has experienced this?  Even if you haven't, please, if you have a suggestion go ahead and share.

Hmm...I have the R800 and haven't noticed this problem at all.  It could be that I just haven't subjected any of my discs to moisture, I suppose.  Does the R200 use pigment or dye based inks?  Mine uses the pigment based inks which are supposedly archival quality - last 70 years or something.  Maybe they would be more resistent to that sort of thing.  That doesn't help you any, of course.

i was going to ask the same thing... i leave my cds in the car and they dont get "moist", so i dunno what hes doin with these cds... unless hes really thin.... ok, too much thought... eww

Sounds kinda like spraypaint to me.

It sprays on like spraypaint, but it isn't as thick & heavy, it's more like hair spray. Can't think of what it's called off the top of my head, but it might be worth a try.

It's called "Fixative Spray" and I use it all the time. Be ABSOLUTELY SURE to spray in a super-ventilated area, never indoors without a fan blowing it out. It's highly toxic.

They are or have come out with burners that use the laser to burn a "label" onto the front side of the disk, give that a whirl, and sell that thing on e-bay.  I'm sure someone out there will think it's the cat's ass and snap it up for a pretty penny from you.

The burned labels look super sweet, and IIRC, you can use different font types too.

MaximumPC had it in a recent issue.  I can't remember who makes it.

Well, I'm licking my finger and wiping it...    Not that I plan on doing that with my collection all the time, it's more like a test to see if they'll hold up to a situation like drinking a soda in mid summer and the condensation gets all over my fingers and I accidentally touch the ink on top of one of my disks.  Usually I grab the disks by the edges so that shouldn't be a problem but I'm sure I won't be the only one to handle the disks.  Also, accidents do happen and there's the possibilty that someone spills something on 'em I guess. 

Is that fixative spray expensive?  How many disks do you think I could get out of one can?

Drew, I've seen those LightScribe burners and disks and although it is pretty cool technology I'm not a big fan of the color schemes that are available.  Also, I'm pretty picky about my media and I don't think Tayo Yuden makes lightscribe disks.

About 7 or 8 bucks a can if I recall correctly. Been a while since I've bought any.

How many disks do you think I could get out of one can?

I'll be mailing you off a specimen straightaway....I'll instruct the delivery person to alert you to the package by setting it ablaze, putting it on your doorstep, and running like crazy so he can't be sucked into the "control" group!
