9MM is a junk round and has been proven to NOT stop a person, it is a great round for target shooting and still is a fine weapon for home protection. The Chicago police force has just changed from issueing 9mm to 40 mm because of the stopping power of the 40mm. I carry a 40mm and feel it is an ideal round, but thats just my opinion. Nice gun by the way, I remember when they first came out and advertised the gun with a "space age polymer".

Guns scare me to death to have at home, but I love rifle target shooting (I did it in Boy Scout camp 22 years ago)

If I bought a handgun for target shooting, do firing ranges provide secure storage if I wanted to leave it there?

Ranges dont hold your guns and you shouldnt want them to, if you buy a gun you store it, you dont want someone else having access to your weapon.

DG Whats all this fashion talk, i own one gun i dont need an arsenal, why are you telling me what im going to be buying and why.

Like you said "you dont know much about guns" i can tell.

Moonshine is one word, and I believe you also want to throw a ho down in there.  And I spelled the version correctly....at least the kind I was referring to. ;D

Well, this thread turned to crap overnight. Here are my final thoughts:

  • People have been getting into the "skill vs caliber" debate for years, and neither party is right. It takes a certain amount of both to be effective.
  • Guns are not "fashionable". Anyone who thinks otherwise needs a serious lesson in life.
  • Glocks have been around for 20 odd years and are the choice weapon for many government agencies and military organizations all over the world. There's probably a reason.
  • Don't let this thread get into a "why this gun is better", or "why guns suck" thread. If you have something to contribute, feel free. Otherwise, let it go!  :)

Naturally, reliability is one of the reasons that Glock's are chosen by many police forces, and I'm not contending that they're great guns, but there is another "real world" reason that isn't discussed as much... Glock offers HUGE discounts to law enforcement. It sounds silly, but think of the cost to a city of outfitting hundreds of officers with guns. If a city can save $20,000 by choosing Glock over Beretta or S&W to outfit a few hundred officers, you know they're gonna be all over it.

Wrong, you haven't been to gun shows or seen antique guns.  Some of the engravings are very elaborate.  You don't put fancy engravings on unless you want to look good :)

Isn't it a little hard to carry around??

What about the kick?

.40 caliber maybe?

so following THAT reasoning, wouldnt you rather have one 'o' those .50 calibre deer hunting pistols? !!)
I'd rather have a high caliber rifle, but the people at my local grocery store frown on me when I'm shopping with an AR-15 over my shoulder.

There is an old saying, never bring a pistol to a rifle fight.  Hand guns are only used because you can

Sorry, I forgot about "those" people.  When I said that, it was the military in me that was talking. I see guns as tools. Some I can see as art, but pieces like those 1911s that have intricate engravings on 'em are a little much. Anyways, I have yet to see someone take one of those fancy pieces and use it as their CCW.

There is an old saying, never bring a pistol to a rifle fight.

I thought it was "never bring a knife to a gunfight?"  ;D

You're both wrong.

Never bring a gun to a Glock fight....

What's the weight of all of these differently-sized rounds?  I'm gonna have to see which one is lightest, because throwing one will definitely be easier if they're lighter, and I'll prolly need several, although for Stingray, I can prolly find a big rock instead and save all my ducats for someone fearsome......ish.

Tell that to the guy who's had several of those "junk rounds" inserted into him.  Speak loudly.  He may be dead and thus have a hard time hearing you. ;D
