Clrmame pro, results?
« on: May 02, 2005, 01:49:40 am »
I have tried using clrmame pro multiple times to try and build a romset for an older version of mame and it never seems to work.  It goes thru the rebuild process fine but when I try to play a game with the newly created romset I still get missing rom errors.
I hear people swear by this program but I have never had much luck with it.  Anyone have any advice for me.

It's likely rebuilding fine, but still missing ROMs that you don't have, ie bad dump ones (as strange as that sounds).

You may be able to pull the new files into the ZIP manually (as much as a PITA that is) but you'll get errors about the CRC/SHA not matching.  Or post a fix.dat file on alt.binaries.emulators.mame and wait for someone to post the files you need.

Thanks Peale!  I am surprised a newer romset would be missing roms that an older version had.

So when ROM is verified say to the latest release and then is tried to be rebuilt to and older version of Mame it could still be missing file.

I have the same problem. I looked in the non-rebuilt one. Then looked at what Roms i am missing. They just look like miss named files.
Take Donkey Kong, plays fine in .94 but .37 says missing
dkong.2k
dkong.2j
dkong.5f
but have a file something with 2j ...etc. in the .94 ROM

Yup, I agree with Peale.
Rebuilding Down has never worked fully.   The biggest one that catches a LOT of people are the neo geo roms.   Anyway. check emule for downgrade rom packs.  otherwise life isnt gong to be fair.

I went through this with an old build some time ago. its a bugger but thats life.
