A couple of friends were playing a two-player game of StreetFighter II today.

ALT+TAB (i believe) will do this.

The first thing I'd do is remap your MAME keys. Having CTRL and ALT keys mapped has always seemed like asking for trouble to me. There are far too many key combos using those that will bring everything to a crashing halt. ALT+TAB, ALT+F4, CTRL+W, CTRL+ESC and ALT+Enter are all possible troublemakers.

I would imagine that what they hit was in fact ALT+Enter which switches between windowed mode and fullscreen.

I found that I needed to turn off all of the accessibility options.  I kept turning on sticky keys somehow...

Run MAME.

Tab Menu - Input (General) - User Interface - Toggle Full Screen - Set to None or NumPad 5 or something you won't ever use.

Continue enjoying your cab.

Tiger-Heli:  I am going to do what you said and see if it happens again.

Thanks for your replies, guys.  Alt-Enter did put it into the window mode, but the funny thing is, that wasn't a button combination for either player 1 or 2 or even combined.  Enter is one of Player 3's buttons.  I have banged every button combination possible and I CAN'T MAKE IT DO IT.  But everybody else who has played two player games has totally hosed the thing.

Next question.  A couple of my son's friends were playing Simpsons today and I walked up and the screen was black except for a window that said memory violation or something like that.  I had to reboot to get out of it.  I'm running Ultrastyle Frontend, and I think that is part of the problem, but I'm not sure.  Any more thoughts?

Odd, now that you mention it, when I checked MAME had it set to LCtrl+LALT+Enter, and I only remember it being a problem for 3 or 4-player cabs (Hulkster had a problem with it, IIRC).  But you need to see what it's set at (and probably disable it on your PC).  Another possibility would be hot-keys for the video card driver, or the screen saver, or . . . .

Not sure about that one.

I changed the setting to none.  Since I can't make the machine blow up myself, I'll have to wait until the next time my son and his friends play :D

Funny how I can play for hours and it works perfectly, but put two other people on it and it's hosed within 2 minutes.

Don't forget it could be joystick inputs too, not just buttons

Something else to look at - Which keys activate the shift functions on your I-PAC/4 and do you use them at all?

For some reason, especially with kids, somehow they can activate stuff that you never think of.  If you don't use them, I recommend running the Winipac software and disabling them (you can always re-enable them temporarily if you need them and then disable again.

I remember when my son was about 5 he moved the Win98 taskbar to the top of the screen and I had no idea at the time that was possible - "What happened to my computer, son?" "I don't know, I just kinda clicked on it and it moved there."
