Mamewah/Video Clips
« on: April 27, 2005, 01:09:40 pm »
I'm a new Mamewah user... Just using
it for Mame and for the Game Menu selection
(I also figured out how to have it play .mp3 files in the backgorund)

How do people utilze the video playback in Mamewah?
I heard you can display a video in the program...
Is this per game, or when you start the program?

If this is true... does anyone use this feature and
what are you showing through it?
...so I will ask you... "Deal, or No Deal?"

You can have it show videos of actual game play.  All you need to do is set the dir of you videos in you mame.ini for mamewah.... its this one movie_preview_path

then name your videos the romname and when its highlited in mamewah after 2 seconds it will play the video in the place you artwork1 is.  This is also changable in mamewah.

This thread shows you how to make the videos.

so, it only shows the video of the Rom you have highlighted on the
list, or it will only cycle thru the videos in the spcific directory?
(like .mp3 files that play in the background)

??

Works just like any other artwork in mamewah... whatever game is highlighted is displayed.... move to different game.... then that one is shown.  assuming you have the video of it.

So you cant just set one video to play while scrolling....
That probably slows down scrolling a bit, eh?
...so I will ask you... "Deal, or No Deal?"

MAMEWAH does not support videos as the background image of a layout.

I think you could fake it though.

Set movie_preview_path.
Then put a single movie in that path.
You'll need to set 'movie_artwork_no' to the Artwork # you wish to display the previews in (eg 1).

Now the trick would be to create a link to that single movie for *every* rom you have. You could do this using a bat file. But I would test out to make sure MAMEWAH would follow the link.

The only problem would be that the movie would restart from the beginning every time you select a new game.

Thanks SaLTy...

A 16 page thread??? um... I think maybe I'll pass on this.. hahah

Maybe when it becomes easy enough to take an .avi file
off the camcorder, name it like the rom name, plop it in the directory,
then have it play automatically... (like an .mp3 file)
then I'll look into this...

;)
...so I will ask you... "Deal, or No Deal?"

I wonder if MAMEWAH supports a default video like it supports a default image?

Try putting the movie in your layout folder and renaming it art1.mpg (assuming you're using art #1 as your snapshots). If not, try renaming it again to art1.jpg.

MAMEWAH just uses DirectX filters to view images and movies.  I've never played with them before, but I wonder if it's as automatic as Windows Media Player makes it look like? :)
