vp-launch4 *fixed*

Sorry, I know this topic has come up before....but I'm at a loss trying to configure visual pinball with vp-launch and mamewah...I keep getting a "This beta version of software has expired" error and I think it's freezing up the rest of it.  I've reinstalled vp and pinmame....is there a new version of vp out?  I have version 6 with the fixed exe file that takes the time limit out.  Maybe I'll look for a new version....

Ok, figured out the first problem.....now I get an active x can't create object error when loading pinmame.....I think reinstalling pinmame fixed that last time...I'll try tomorrow...just for the record....Howard...did you configure vp-launch to automatically look for visual pinball under program files?  That was what it was doing....

ok,

Narrowed down the problem to my mamewah config file....I used the copy off of John Crouses' site.  I'm getting a windows error but I can't see what it is cause I can't exit the black screen.  The only thing that displays is the pinmame window.  The wrapper works excellent when you test it.  So...does anyone have a working config file for visual pinball that they'd share?  This is the last piece of the puzzle and then my machine is done...ha ha...like that ever happens....preferably a newer version.....I have 1.6.....thanx

Version 7-beta3 of visual pinball is the latest one I'm aware of.
Could it be that your copy of vpinmame has expired? I think the latest there is 1.51.

I've got it working, but won't be able to post my config file until I get home. I had heaps of troubles getting it working until I installed XP (I was using 98SE initially).

I will post my config file later.

Thanx....I reverted to the older version of vp-launch and now I can get a few tables to run.  Mostly just a black screen tho....I'm using win xp sp2 and mamewah 1.61 with vp 6.1...I heard 7 was buggy.....but mostly for building your own tables....pinmame 1.51 ...funny....vp-launch4 works great with the test proggie...must be my ini settings cause the vp log said rom path not found....I read about this happening to someone else but there was no reply....and I'm not the best at those ini files....

I must admit that I haven't fully tested it. But it seemed okay for me (ini file still pending). I was just glad that going from 98 to XP actually made the wrapper work correctly. With 98 I still had to manually exit the emulator after pressing ESC and there were other issues with exiting also...

Not that it's necessarily related, but are you running visual pinball 6.1 xp-fix 5? It's a replacement for the 6.1 exe if running XP with SP2.

### vpinball.ini (mamewah v1.61) ###

ok,

I'm using virtually the same setup as you....the pinballwrapper file will work on some tables but not others....mostly it will hang on the splash screen.....I'm using the exact same ini file...except for the paths and such.....I tried vp-launch4 which works flawlessly outside mamewah but I keep getting a runtime error 52: bad file name or number while running inside mamewah....and mamewah will sometimes stop responding....I'm at a complete loss here...the only thing I haven't tried is rolling back my video drivers...I heard the new nvidea drivers are buggy....but it's about time to give up on this....mamewah 1.61...visual pinball beta 7....win xp...pinmame 1.51....I'm pulling my hair out here...if anyone has a clue what's going on...I'd love to hear it....thanx

I just want to warn you that Visual Pinball was and continues to be the *MOST* difficult emulator to setup properly. I've tried many tutorials, reading documentation, other people's settings. I even tried to write my own tutorial for some friends after I finally got it all working - but something about Visual Pinball, or PinMAME, or the various launchers, or even the VBS files makes everything so tenuous that it's really hit or miss.

The easiest install I ever did, was when I took my hard drive over to my friend's house and just copied my whole working c:/Pinball directory. But even that had some problems and just forget about updating! It's not like MAME, don't update to new tables, or new pinmame's or new Visual Pinballs. Just leave it alone.

good luck, but be forewarned!
Joseph Elwell.

Note taken.....I got it to work with vp-launch4 somewhat....some tables work...but most won't show the table...just the pinmame window....I can hear the table.....just not see it...I know others have had the same problem...but I haven't come across the solution yet.....I've tried Howard's emu.....but I couldn't get my head around it...kept getting errors there too....

I would say that Zinc is the most difficult to get working properly!  Followed closely by anything emulated with MESS.

Hmm..is that why half my games in Zinc don't seem to accept any input I wonder or does that happen with the default controls too? (Apologies for slightly derailing the thread)

the zinc control plug-in is broken. if you are running zinc in a cab with default j-pac settings I created a .cfg that works well.
