Hantarex mtc 9000 repair or dead.
« on: April 26, 2005, 04:09:35 am »
I picked up a free cabinet at the weekend which needs a lot of work. It was originally from spain and is know in the uk. The previous owner took the two pin plug off and wired on a new 3 pin uk plug. He wired on the earth which the 2 pin plug did not have. It powered up and the game displayed, then it turned of and a burning spell and smoke started from the back. It appears to be the kickback on the chassis which has a split in it now.
Do you think this can be repaired or is it likely to have taken something else with it? Would the mains earth being wired have caused this problem, i dont want to spend money on it for it to happen again. There is a tranformer in the cab.
I am in the uk and am struggling to find reasonably priced parts.

Part of me thinks try and repair it the other is thinking just get one with a working monitor. or put a pc monitor in it. I am looking at spending the bare miniumum at the moment.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Hantarex monitors are well known for high failure flyback transformers. They also need capkits too.

so is it worth repairing? when they go do they take any other things with them? i just dont want to go to the expense of a new kickback to fing its something else. Anyone know of any cheap uk parts or cheap u.s. that ship to the uk? Probably need a cap kit as well.

Would the earth being wired in have anything to do with it or was that just coincedence?

cheers.

Ok i've found a kickback HR 7025 is the equivalent part. Is it likely to have taken anything else out? For the cap replacement is there a list of the caps i would need anywhere.
Cap kits seem to be hard to come by in the uk and i have a Maplins down the road.

Cheers

Now im confused.
Trawling the internet  i found this topic
http://www.startechjournal.com/discus/messages/3768/3548.html?1090780173

This seems to raise some query over which flyback transformer was installed on these chassis. The part number on the manual is 28021200 which is HR7025. but some are saying the actual one used is a 28026030 = HR7107.

I'm about to take off the old split one, where will i find the part number on it? I don't want to order the wrong one.

Any help greatfully appreciated. I have found a site that has both types at a good price in the uk.

There should be a paper label on the side of the flyback. It may have several part numbers on it.

thanks for the reply but i am in the uk so it would be a little to far to send it to you!
I have ordered the equivalent flyback transformer (HR7107) having got the old one off. The actual part used is a different number from the manual so i have ordered the same one as before.
Hopefully that will be it and it will be up and running again.

If not then its

ok my kickback HR7107 has arrived. It looks a little different but the big thing is the metal bar that went over the transformer and was soldered to the motherboard is not there.

Do i need to take the old one off and put it on this one or is it no longer necessary?

I am looking at putting this on tonight so would welcome a response.
thanks in advance.

If you mean the thick(ish) support bar that goes over the top of the flyback and down the back, I don't think it's necessary.

I had to remove it from the new flyback when I replaced the one on my MTC 9000 chasis. It works great.

it is the metal bar which runs in the groove up the back of the transformer. it was soldered to the board but seems to just run up the back part over the top and stop.

The new one dosent have this, i have had to cut back a little of the metal surround to get it to sit flush on the board. it's not yet soldered in as i am only planning on doing it once!!

just want to make sure its not required. the metal pin is actually glued to the old one so i dont think it comes off.

Any help greatfully recieved.

Ye it was just hot melted in on mine. It came off pretty easily and didn't seem to have any real purpose other than perhaps to give the transformer a little more support.

I only removed it because the new one didn't line up with the hole in the PCB.

Wait until Ken or Guru give you the all clear though  ;)

We can repair all Hantarex monitors at reasonable rates.
eg Hantarex MTC9000 with NEW LOPTE (Line Output Transformer)

Having installed the HR7107 lopt (with out the metal pin that was on the old one) it blew reisistor a resistor (89 i think) i replaced this and now i get something through the tube.

If i adjust the screen dial on the lopt it displays a white screen which flicks very quickly and there is a ticking noise. and sometimes sounds like it is shorting out from the rubber connector on the tube.

When it is turned down a bit it shows a half white screen with a cresent shape to the bottom of it.
when i put an input through it an nvidia tnt card you can see it is changing the screen as it goes through the setup but it is ilegible and allover on the left side.

Ive tried tweeking every dial on the control board, the focus and screen on the lopt and the brightness with no luck.

any ideas what to try next. its obviously closer than it was but still of no use.

Any help appreciated. Pc monitor is looking more likely at the moment but i would love the warm glow of an arcade monitor!!

Sounds like the vertical output IC has also gone bad.
