Ok now what?
« on: April 22, 2005, 04:17:59 pm »
??? Ok, now using the ArcadeVGA card is out for me. Since I paid 89 for it and it isnt PCI compatable(not a computer guy). So what can I do now. I have a Dell with Pent4-3GHz HT, 800 FSB. Integrated video. I have a Wells Gardner d9200. I just want to play games and have fun. I really want it to look nice. I didn't do enough research last time but now I am all ears. Can I still somehow trick my cpu into giving me the right resolutions? Also I tried using AdvanceMame but I don't know how to start it. Would this help. ???

What video card do you have currently?

If it's a Intel Intergrated Video on mother board you need a video card.
These chipsets have issues with mame.

To use advmame, get a Nvidia, not a ATI, they don't have support for the newer radeon cards with advmame.

Also, what kind of Dell do you have?

Does it have only pci or a PCI-Express slot?

If you just want to use regular mame. (A waste with that monitor, but it is quite a learning curve with advmame.)

Just setup mame to use 640x480 and make sure hwstretch=1.

This will get you up and running with your current monitor/card combo most likely.
(as long as it's not a Intel)

Thanks for the input. I Would like to use AdvanceMame butI have no idea what I am doing. I am using a dell dimension 300...3Ghz pentium 4 with HT, 800 FSB. 80 GB hard drivr ...512 MB Shared DDRSDRAM with just integrated video. Do you think it's wise ot get a video card for this? What kind is the best to get? I think I have regular PCI slots. Also How did everyone else learn to use AdvMame? It doesnt really tell you what to do...I downloaded everything and I clicked on the exe(with megaman Icon) and it just said configuring and othing happened.

Ok, I guess you meant a 3000 since a 300 doesn't exist.

Thats a 845 celeron based system with intergrated intel graphics.

Get a new video card.

Here's a suggestion.

http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150040&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&ATT=Video+Cards

it a good midrange card that will let you play modern 3d games.

It's also supported by advancemame under windows, so with a bit of patience, you can get all the video modes the avga card supports, and more.

And I'm sure you can post you avga card in the for sale forum and it will be sold.

Or, sell the dell and get a system with a agp slot.
(This is getting harder to do, I work for a computer dealer and we have to special order agp boards now, pci only on the low end, pci express on the high end.)
