Problems w/ certain roms
« on: April 21, 2005, 02:35:08 pm »
I am currently running Mamewah and the most current version of Mame.  Most of the Roms work fine, but for some the DOS box appears and the Rom doesn't work.  I understand that this means either that the Romset is bad or missing.  I downloaded the Rom off many different sites with the same outcome.  I checked the mame games list and it says the game works.  The games this happens to me on are Magicdrop 3 and Street Fighter II Champion Ed.  I tried Magicdrop 1 and 2 and neither work.  Other versions of street fighter 2 haven't worked, but street fighter alpha 3 works fine.  Anyone know what I need to do to make these Roms work?

Thanks for reading

you prolly have some bad/corrupt/partial rom files.

Download and run ClrMamePro to see what files are bad.

Try "getting" their parent roms...

Parent for Magical Drop: Chain Reaction (chainrec)

For Street Fighter II Champion Ed., try getting sf2ce since that is Street Fighter II Champion Ed. in its parent form.

For more info on the parent roms and such, check MAWS (http://www.mameworld.net/maws/)

that's a great point... I usually assume we're dealing with a full set of roms.

If you've been "getting" random roms, you need to have the parent roms first and foremost.

also some roms change from one version of mame to another, so that might be a problem too.  it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Ok...so i got street fighter II working.  Awesome...downloaded chain reaction (chainrec.zip).  Chain reaction opens up a screen comes up saying this rom isn't working.  I hit ok then the screen turns black, so i hit escape to exit.  Before magic drop itself wouldn't even open up and now it does and it does the same as chain reaction.  Magic Drop 2 and 3 still pop up with the DOS page..

Thanks so much for the info it awesome that street fighter II is now working!  But man do i love magic drop, i remember playing that game all day in the local comic book store.

Any advice to make that work?

Thanks again.

To get Magical Drop II & III to work, "get" the neogeo bios zip for mame.

FYI, Chain Reaction currently does not work in MAME.
