Toshiba 27a34 TV w/ati component adapter

Hi, I wonder if anyone is using a Toshiba 27a34 TV as a display with either s-video or ATI component adapter?

I seem to be running into some dreadful issues with color and flicker on the display and wonder if anyone has any suggestions.

In general, the tv doesn't appear as good as it first seemed. In s-video especially theres color issues, with red objects displaying blue down their left side any yellow down the right. The screen also has a percepible flicker to it.

I went out and bought an ATI component adapter and the colours are definately better (though not completely fixed) and the picture sharper but my god the screen is flickery, especially on windows desktop (even at 640x400 @ 60Hz). The effect is lessened in Mame itself, but still enough to give you a headache after a while.

I've been more than a little disapointed by the TV in general (screen is rotated a couple of degrees also) and maybe I've been spoiled by using a PC on a Sony Wega for the last 3 years just fine, but the Toshiba shouldn't be this bad, should it??

Given the lack of replies, I don't know if I explained my issues well enough for help. I've linked to some pictures I took of the issue with objects on the screen that are red and green. I get these coloured lines on the left and right edges with both S-video and component connections from two different pc/video card combinations.

Any idea what the issue is? Or is this 'normal'

I have to say that the issue is actually way more noticable in normal use than it actually might appear from the pictures.

I just bought the Toshiba 27A34 about a week ago in anticipation of using it for a mame machine, but I haven't actually gotten to the point of hooking it up to the computer yet.

If you do a search, there are a few threads that talk about the whole s-video/component setup. Here is a big one:

In fact, if you have the ATI card with DVI out, you might want to try the DVI/Component dongle and use that Powerstrip software.

A lot of people say that component (not composite) is better than s-video.

I think you can get one online for about $70.  Radio Shack is supposed to carry them also.

Thanks for the reply arcadefan, but as my orginal post says I have been using the ATI > Component adapter. The coloured fringing happens when using both the S-video and component inputs.

I was just wondering if this particular issue, is actually an issue and what could be causing it. Hopefully once I know what it is, I can get it fixed.

Sorry about that, cellarboy. I guess the mention of s-video in the post threw me off (even though the title says "component").
