I think compiling AdvanceMAME for DOS requires DJGPP.

What exactly does defMame do other than support all the 2004 NeoGeo games and fighter hacks?

I just tried it.  It appears that it doesn't work.  In fact, it looks like it does the exact same thing that the patch on the Mameworld site does.  It doesn't run at all.

ArcadeOS 2.0+ is interesting.  He's added a starfield.  I don't know what other bugs have been worked on (if any) because the source has not been made available.

Just to bump an old thread, Mame .95 DOS version (official) was just released.  It's downloadable over on Mame.Net.
