Looking for a custom compiled 0.36 ...
« on: April 18, 2005, 10:55:01 am »
Hello all. I'm trying to get an old 400mhz setup.
Got it running MAME dos 0.36 right now with Gamelaucher FE but I cannot get the "skip_disclaimer" and the other "skip" commands to work.
I think that's because that feature was added into later versions of MAME (?).
Is there any link or any other type of MAME (noname, advmame, etc) that has that option already set in ?
I tried newer versions of MAME that has that feature in it but the games run a lot slower in that old computer.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Uh, you could honestly use Windows 98 and a MAME in the 0.5x range. I'm using Win98 + MAME 0.59 on a 450mhz and it's running full speed.

As for making skip_disclaimer and such work -- those options were added in a much later version. Your best option is to look for hacks for MAME (no disclaimer hack, no warnings hack) and recompile it yourself. You're not allowed to release modified binary versions of MAME that are hacked (unless it's not named MAME because of the new license, right?)

I am not qualfied to answer your question. But I asked how to boot to Ms pac.
I got some great help.
I rememberd this one reading your post.
Play around with this and it might be able to help by modifing a bat file.
On window, you can say MAME32

dawayne -

This doesn't have *anything* to do with his question.  And your answers are centered around Windows, not DOS, as .36 is DOS only.

Therefore, I award you zero points, and may G0d have mercy on your soul.

Sure, a batch files works in DOS.

But those commands don't work with Mame .36.  It wasn't introduced until much, much later.

The only option is to compile with the warnings taken out.

Since those options are now official, would it still be a problem to distribute a version with the warnings removed?

I have a version I hacked for myself years ago... it has all the warnings removed, and uses CF2 files instead of CFG files so it can coexist with another MAME version...

Except I just remembered it's not .36... it's .37b8.  :(  (I think. I'll need to check when I get home.)

I don't think you could distribute a version with those warnings removed (except between two parties, I think that would be technically against the license, but morally okay)

Or you could hack the source to include the parameters for newer versions of Mame.  Don't know how feasible that is, I haven't checked that part of the source.
