Neo Geo for wimp PC?
« on: April 14, 2005, 12:02:14 pm »
P-200 equivalent, TV-out, Win98, do I even have a hope of running any NeoGeo games?  (Maybe Gekko, but it doesn't have sound.  And Puzzle Bobble without sound is unthinkable.)

If NeoGeo isn't an alternative, any suggestions for a decent set of horizontal games?
MAME Projects % completed:
2004 3 sided cocktail cabinet w/ modular CP <25% (discarded)
2004 Tempest cabinet & CP > 75% (sold)
2017 Raspberry Pi Zero W w/ Lakka microconsole 50%
2021 Vertical Bartop - in progress > 80%, 100% functional (sleeping)

Try running NeoRage instead of MAME.

You could try using NeoRageX from Windows, or the ancient NeoRage from pure DOS for some extra speed. You won't be able to play recent games, but I'd say you might get Puzzle Bobble going at a good speed.

NeoRage, nebula, Kawaks.

mame is slow at neogeo because it is about exact emulation and not taking advantage of computer hardware.

As of .82 (the version i run) mame doesn't support neogeo transparencies either.  Which I think is odd.

Yeah,

use neoragex emulator.

Your Pc hardware is not enough for neogeo games in mame.

You can buy better PC hardware than that for like $20. A $20 400 mhz computer and Mame .55 will be smokin fast at the Neo Geo games.

With a P200, I would say forget Mame and become familiar with Nes, Snes and Genesis emulators, all of which will run full speed on that setup (at least older emulators will, not sure about newer ones).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Where can I pick up such a PC without watching eBay all day?

Try having a look at CraigsList for your area, a lot of times you can find a PC like that for free. If you're not in a major city you might have to do a little driving though.
