Best SNES and NES emulator for cabinet?
« on: April 13, 2005, 02:42:28 pm »
Hello,

I was just recently trying to add both NES and SNES emulators to my cabinet, but the 2 that came highly recommended by another site don't work well with an arcade cabinet (I tried FCE Ultra for NES and SNES9x for SNES).

What I'm after is a nice front end that will let me scroll down the list of roms and possibly it will show a screen shot of the game I've highlights (currently, both emulators make you go to File->Open and then search for a rom from a generic windows browse box, only file names, no screen shots etc...)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Not sure from your post whether you're already running a front end on your cabinet or not (you'll definitely need one to do what it sounds like you want to do), but here's how I have mine set up.  I'm running Mamewah v1.61 and I use Virtuanes for NES and ZSNESW for SNES.

Try here for ZSNESW:

And here for Virtuanes and just about everything else:

Hope this helps,

Coop

I also use ZSNESw. But my NES emulator is one called NESticle. It works pretty well, and has good features. I haven't figured out how to connect either of them with MameWah though.

I'm using ZSNES and FCEU through Mamewah. At screenshotarchive you can get a hacked version of FCEU that exits with escape for Mamewah.

They both rock, my only complaint is that ZSNES doesn't handle the inside-the-death-star level of SUper Return of the Jedi.

I am running Nesticle and Zsnes (i think that's the name) with Mamewah on my machine. Only issue I was having is closing out of either after I startup a game in mamewah, but Alt/f4 has fixed that although I have to find a better solution once I build my cabinet.
Why the Hell are they Blinking!?!?

ZSNES is easy to convert to exit on ESC: just go into your ZSNES .cfg file and set GUIDISABLE to 1. Just make sure you have all your settings (video, controllers, special key assignments) done before you do this, becuase obviously you won't be able to bring up the GUI.  ;D
