Golden Tee Golf questions
« on: April 12, 2005, 03:48:50 pm »
Okay,  I like Golden Tee Golf, but where can I get a copy? Is it MAME only? I heard there was a home PC version, where can I get that?  Basically, how is everyone playing Golden Tee Golf at home?

There are several arcade versions currently emulated under Mame..  and there was a Golden Tee PC as well.

I think most people would suggest you just find yourself the arcade roms now, and run it through Mame.

Where can you get it?  Well.. you're not really allowed to ask here.  But, for the ambitious and resourceful, they're not hard to find at all.

google.

There is a PC version available.  its Games makes it, and you can purchase it from their website:

http://www.itsgames.com/Products/GoldenTeePC/

There's also a demo version available, so you can try before you buy.

does anyone know if the pc or the mame versions are more recent?  IE which one has the most up to date graphics/gameplay?

Okay, I have done much research on this.  Please type Golden tee in a search and you will find many answers.  The golden tees on mame i believe started on .92.  They are 97,98,99,2k, classic, and 3d.  They are not the newer fore series that have great 3d rendering.  So with that being said.  These GT's play great on the cabinets, I mean great.  Now if you're looking for graphics close to the fore series in the bars, you need to convert over to the Tiger Woods computer games.  I have 04 and love it.  It has all the graphics, works with the trackball very well, and you can play against others.  Another very cool feature of this is that you can play online and download tons of courses.  I recommend the mame golden tees for guests and friends and the Tiger Woods for yourself as it takes a little to get going.  Not much mind you, but the GT's are right there and easy.  I hope this helps.

I tried the PC version only to find it doesn't work right with Windows XP.
There are patches and stuff available, but I still never got past random crashes to desktop. The versions available in MAME play great, but aren't as nice graphically as the dedicated PC version.

I don't have it installed anymore to get a screenshot to compare, but I think the PC version would run at 1024x768. It looked way better than Golden Tee 3D in MAME.

I know these screencaps don't show it as clear, but there is a DEFINITE difference between GT PC and GT 2k on mame on my setup.

As a matter of fact, I've even posted in here about GT2k (and the other mame GT's) about how horrible they look on my display.  I have a monitor cable of doing the resolutions needed and a card that supports it (Betson imperial and arcade vga card), so maybe there's something wrong on my setup?  Does everyone elses Mame version of GT look this bad?

Like I said, maybe it isn't evident in the pic, but the PC golden tee looks so much sharper that I play it instead of the mame version.

BTW - I'm running XP home on my arcade machine and never have any crashes with GT PC (and never applied any patches).

I've got the Betson Multisync with AVGA card and my MAME version looks the same as yours.  Golden Tee 3D looks better than the earlier ones, but they are all a little blurry.

I've also tried it on another PC with a Radeon 9200SE card and VGA monitor and it doesn't look any better.

I just got a Golden TEE PC CD in the mail but haven't loaded it yet.  Does it play the same as MAME?

Also, since you are in XP, do you have the same crashing that was mentioned earlier?

seems to play the same to me, though I'm no golden tee guy..I've never played the actual game in the arcades.

And no, I haven't had any of the same crashing problems they mentioned.

I forget all the details guys, but I think the crashes may have been related to DX9 and not just Windows XP. It's been a few months. There was a Golden Tee league page that had the info. Perhaps it was Cases Ladder. I was definitely not the only one who had issues with it.
