Ultimarc Arcade VGA Card Problems
« on: April 11, 2005, 04:02:43 pm »
I was trying to load up my computer using the Ultimarc Arcade VGA card.  However, I cannot boot windows normally.  The computer freezes trying to load windows.

I called ATI and tried to work it out to no avail.  I can boot into Safe Mode.

The problem is, I can't install the drivers.  I get an error saying I need DirectX 8 installed.  I have 9.0c installed, but I downloaded and installed 8.0 just to see if it madea difference.  No change.  After telling it to bypass the directx error, I get a number of other errors. which prevent me from installing the drivers for the card.  Right now ATI windows drivers are on there from 3/23/2004.

I've tried a lot of things, and am getting frustrated, I can't remember everything I have tried.

I updated the AGP controller for the motherboard to try to solve the error.

The computer will boot using on board video on a standard monitor.  I disabled on-board video from within Windows.

I get the Directx 8 error

Then: INF error video driver not found

Finally: Instalation was not able to complete, please try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

Then it kicks out of the installer program.

I had something of the same problem, where the ArcadeVGA drivers were not recognized after installation...

Sounds simple, but I headed to the Add Hardware control panel and manually pointed the installation to the ArcadeVGA CD.

Thanks, yeah, I ended up doing something similar in forcing Windows to load the drivers through device manager.

Now the screen is too wide though, how can I fix that?

The monitor I was installing with my AVGA was a new Betson Imperial (Kortek) and naturally required a few adjustments to the horizontal and vertical size and hold.  It was pretty close during initial startup, but I sat with the controls for a while and tweaked the position and size just like any PC monitor.

For my install, I made sure that the AVGA ATI Control Panel was installed (this is in the "Cpanel" folder on the CD).

I have tweaked the controls and the controls are at their maximums and the screen is still too big.

Windows may be trying to use the stock ATI driver (Which does not work with ArcadeVGA).  You need to delete the AVI driver INF file, and then reboot.

What motherboard are you using?  It's possible that the motherboard chipset drivers need to be installed and/or updated.

Does the motherboard have onboard video?  Is it disabled in the BIOS?

What version of Windows are you using?  32 or 64 bit?

Try installing the latest DirectX using the web installer...

Make sure you read the instructions on the Ultimarc site...

Here's a link to the ATI driver remover utility...

What version of the ArcadeVGA are you using?  Make sure you have the latest drivers.
