Went to an Arcade Tonight.....WoW!
Will:
Its amazing my arcade from my youth is still in business. It has changed owners a bunch of times and now is owned by a guy who used to pretty much service the whole county with machines in pizza places 7-eleven ect.The name hasnt changed its still called Starbase 1 but it has gone downhill.Went in there a few months ago and it made me sad the machines looked beat up and pretty much in poor condition. They did have some nice older machines like Robotron and a Ms Pacman and a R-type machine and a few pinball machines too.Other than that it was your standard driving and fighting games. It was over probably 15 years since I last walked in there and it was pretty nostalgic just shoving a dollar into the change machine. Then after a few games that passed and I realized that although nostalgic the fun of the arcade was gone and I would rather be in my home on my pc or a console rather in this dark shadey run down place from my youth.
There is also a arcade in the mall but it hardly even grabs my attention a bunch of fighting and driving games a few foosball games and a galaga machine.Besides galaga i would never even enter the place.
I miss the good old days when you would go to your local arcade and bang they would have a new game with a crowd around it and everyones got there quarters up on the marquee fighting over whos next:)That was fun....
DreamWeb:
Did any of the games still have coin slots? Or are they all 'paper money' equipped now? Or, perhaps a VISA card slot?
I miss the old days... when a game cost .25 cents.

Will:
Most were 50 cents but all the old games were all a quarter...

The arcade close to my house uses magnetic cards... Which, although it ruins the feel of putting in a coin, is probably one of the best moves an arcade could make... Of course, as one of the few arcades that actually still makes money, it's all the same familiar routine there... There's a poor "cinema" in there... Mini golf, go-karts, and pizza... And of course the only games that aren't shooters, fighters, redemption, or racers, are a Pac - Ms. Pac, some Maddens, and a few "Motion simulators"... At least they have a few pinballs, which is usually what i most look forward to when i go there... Although i must admit, all of those high tech, motion simulation, force feedback, projection screen, 1.50$ racers, although aren't quite like the old arcades, are so d*mn fun!
I guess it's sad, but at least some arcades still make money...
(and in this case, AFAIK, lots and lots of it...)
JonnyBoy:
Sadly, the best arcade we have around here is our skating rink. It has Smash TV, 720, TMNT among others. The downfall is that the games are so limited, there are only about 20 of them at the most. Oh yeah, I forgot that they have Revolution X too.
