Problem with Z26 emulator--help.
« on: April 06, 2005, 10:16:37 pm »
I am trying to get Z26 to work (latest edition--2.13), but when I load a rom, I get the same error message.  "Couldn't lock display surface:DirectDrawSurface3:: Lock: Surface was lost  Exiting..."
Any reason I would get getting this message?  I am trying to load it using MAMEwah 1.61.  Thanks for any help.

Hi,

The message you got is a message from DirectX.  So check if your DirectX is well installed.
It should but just to be sure.

It seems Z26 want a DirectX3  , it is quiet old. But it should work on newer version.

The problem could come from a conflig with Mamewah. I don' t know if it uses Direct X too but i think. May be MameWah does not free DirectX correctly before running the emulator.

you could do a quick test with my Front End : AtomicFE , and check if you have the same probleme May be not.    I use Z26 too (but not the last version) , and i don't have that error.

If you try Atomic, it you got the error , go on the options Tab and Uncheck the checkbox "Hide Emulator loading".

Let me know.

When you run Z26 without the FrontEnd , do you have this error?

For a more cabinet friendly experience try the hacked version of Z26 on my website at http://home.comcast.net/~cpviewer . It should be under downloads/applications.

Enjoy,
John

Actually, that is the one that I am using.  I also tried to follow the .ini provided for use with MAMEwah 1.61.  The previous version of Z26 worked fine with 1.52, but now this version is giving this error with 1.61.  Any ideas?

Try the previous with the 1.61 , just to check if the problem comes from Z26 or MameWah.  Don' t change both version at the same time.
