Joystick/controller problems with Mamewah...help
« on: April 06, 2005, 09:02:37 pm »
Hi, I've found the answers to EVERYTHING that I've needed so far on here and everyone is phenomenal but I have encountered a snag that I can't figure out (been trying for about 4 hours)

I'm running Mame through Mamewah and I just bought a saitek st90 analog joystick and am having a heck of a time trying to get it to work.  I've been in the default config file for mamewah and set joystick = 1 and can't get the joystick to read at all.  Also I can't even get my simple usb controller to work either.  I enter the inputs for the game and nothing I hit on the analog stick or eventhe controller (I used on my other computer before wit not problems before)  Here is what I think it may be though...

I'm running Win98SE and when I look in the controllers it will always says unknown before it says ok.  I don;t know if this lag may have some effect on the controllers being read??...  Basically I've run out of ideas, hence the reason why I've turned to the board for help.

I've tried everything I could find in the past topics here and am about to pull out my hair.  If anyone has had this problem or can shed some light on what I need to do that would be GREAT.  i just want to be able to play games like Afterburner with the stick and eventually driving games once I get a 270 wheel so I need to get this figured out.  Thanks!!!  I hope I'm not screwed cuz my cab would be Awesome with the stick and a wheel I could attach!!

In your MAMEWAH ctrlr.ini file, it's "joystick 1", not "joystick = 1".

Also, are you sure you're running DirectX 8?

Oops, sorry, I was typing fast from frustration.  I did have it as joystick 1, not joystick = 1 in the MAMEWAH ctrlr.ini file, no luck.  Also I installed Directx 8.1 on the machine (may have already been on it) and still nothing.

I can get it to work when I run mame from the command line so it isn't the joystick, just something somewhere in the mamewah files I'm guessing.  Any clues beyond changing joystick 1 in the MAMEWAH ctrlr.ini file??  I'd like to use it in Mamewah and not have to go through the command line everytime I want to use it...

Thanks!!

No Ideas why I can use this analog joystick when I load MAME through DOS but can't get it to work in Mamewah even though I changed it it from joystick 0 to joystick 1 in the MAMEWAH ctrlr.ini ??
