Looking for Monitor repair info
« on: November 18, 2002, 03:00:11 pm »
Hello all,
I am looking for information on general monitor repair. I was wondering if there were any good resources on the net that describe common monitor symptoms and fixes. I know cap kits will repair some issues, but it would be nice to which those were and what other common issues can be fixed outside of cap kits.

I have a couple of monitors with some problems I'd like to fix if they are reasonable easy and inexpensive. I'd also like this kind of information to be able to tell what to stay away from when buying at auction.

For instance, I bought an Atari Vindicator this weekend for $15 at auction. I knew it had monitor issues and figured for $15 I couldn't go too wrong. In it's case the screen is offset horizontally about 3-4 inches to the left so that some of the game image is not visible it is also a little skewed towards the top of the screen. Adjustment of the Horz. Center pot does not help. It also starts to make a high pitch whining noice after being on for a few minutes and then proceeds to pretty much smear the entire screen. I'm curious if this can be fixed or not and for how much.

Can anyone point me to the any resources to help diagose this?

Thanks
David
