Clone Wars Vector Art (WIP)
« on: February 25, 2005, 10:42:19 am »
Hey everyone,

I decided that I was going to go with a Star Wars 'Clone Wars' theme for my first cab, but rather than starting with actual movie images, I decided to go with images from the Cartoon Network Clone Wars cartoon. For one thing, I LOVE Tartakovsky's character designs. For another, I have the artistic skills of a rutabaga, figured that the art would be real easy to vectorize, and would also look good on the side of a cab.

I found the cover to the upcoming Clone Wars DVD at this site:

http://inlandempirestrikesback.net/v-web/gallery/IESBDVD

... and was instantly inspired. I've decided that one side of the cab will feature 'The Good Guys' against a red background, and the other side will feature 'The Bad Guys' against a blue background. The control panel will feature a half-red/half-blue battleground scene, with a lightsaber splitting it down the middle.

I'm not actually tracing the DVD cover directly... I've decided to take individual source images (with slight differences from those used on the cover) so I can move things around a little bit (Anakin, for instance, who will be on both sides of the cab).

Here's my first stab at one of the characters, and I have to say that if I can do this, ANYONE here can...

I haven't actually vectorized the background yet... that's still 100% pure bitmap. But Mace Windu is all vector.

Looks good... but something about having SLJ as Mace would be a bit better, I think....

Why would Anakin be on both sides?  Unless.... uh.... you mean......  ARRGGGGHHHHH  NOW IT"S RUINED!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!   SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note: My web hosting was acting flakey this morning, so I bear no responsibility if the link takes you to a dark website of mind-altering horror and mayhem, instead of my pretty peek-ture.

Great idea (the two-sides thing) I also like the graphic style, very suitable for a cab IMHO dynamic.

And here I thought people had ZERO interest in my cab art.  ;D

I actually haven't worked on it for about a month or so... other projects have kinda taken me away from it.

But with some luck, I'll begin the actual construction this summer (after my garage defrosts and dries out).

PS: You're talking to the color-blind kid... I thought Mace's saber WAS purple in my picture. Guess I'll have to fix that...  ;)

I like the choice of artwork. The Clone War animated series was one of the themes I was toying with, although I've had a hard time deciding what I ultimately want to do.
