Gauntlet Legends - Alternatives?
« on: April 06, 2005, 12:28:29 pm »
Hi all,

So I started work on my MAME project last year, and will be continuing on with the project in a couple of weeks.  That being said, it was planned to be a surprise for my friends and I to play some 4-player goodness...  After a while I couldn't keep the secret so I brought them downstairs to see what I'd done so far.  I was expecting the reaction to be "Sweet! We can play some (TMNT), (X-Men), (Guantlet)" ... Instead they said "Sweet, we can play some Guantlet LEGENDS!"

*insert forehead thwap here*

Now, I'm well aware that current processors can't handle the MAME emulation of this game, and I'm more than happy to wait.  But in the meantime, I've hummed and hawed and decided to cheat on my Mame-only configuration plans for the sake of these two games and the sheer happiness of my friends. :)

After all that rambling, the question is:  Has anyone here come across an alternate emulator on the net that supports Legends/Dark Legacy at full speed on a mid-range PC (2.4G P4)?  I've done some searching around and came up with no leads so far.

Your best bet is to get one of the console ports.  I have the xbox version and it's pretty fun to play.  Good luck.

what monitor do you have?  this might make a difference.

But I'm running a dreamcast with its port.  Good port.  Hackes really well into a true arcade crt.

Are you running an IPac?  You might consider purchasing his ipac->xbox converter and going with an xbox.  Would make the update trivial for the controls... but I'm not sure what monitor options you have...

look at the console forum and ask

Bahahaha..... "Blue Valkyrie".

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.  Truth is, I DO own a Dreamcast that's currently collecting dust, so integrating that somehow shouldn't be too big a deal.

I don't have the monitor yet, but it will either be a WG D9200 or the BI/Kortek KT-2914, with an ArcadeVGA card.  Most likely working in a VGA switch to allow the monitor to choose between the PC and the DC's VGA breakout box should also pose no real challenge.  Woo!. :)

One brand of vga breakout box you can cut a cord (I added a switch) that will in the end give you perfect arcade CRT out.

highly recommended!  works with the lightguns and everything!

btw, for hacking the controllers... I bought mine (I suck at soldering) but I hear that the offbrands are MUCH easier to hack.  Ask around to people who actually did it and they can tell you.

btw... I LOVE my dreamcast cab... I probably play it more then my mame cab now.... (ok, not since I got my oscar v2 spinner... tempest and startrek are hitting 90%+ of all games)

I've had bad luck emulating this game, so for anyone else thinking of emulation, I Iso'd my copy of GL for PSX, and it barely moves on my P2 (plus, the PSX graphics just look like suck anyways, way too pixelated), and I've ran GL for Project 64 on multiple machines, all very slow and not very impressive. Just a heads up. Anyone have any luck with the 64 rom? Until thats working, sounds like running a console in your cab with hacked joys would prolly be best.

Lets see a pic of this if you get it to work! ~The Glaine~

Damn it people!  ;)

What about the NUD codes? Which console has the best support for these?

I've read snippets here and there on different boards - but so far nothing conclusive. But I imagine any Nintendo system is going to be very censored (since nintendos are targeted at children).
