I FINALLY found a local one with a clear title.
« on: April 06, 2005, 03:43:50 am »
I have been looking for another 83' Honda Passport for 4 years.

I finally caught one on ebay right after it went up.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&?ViewItem&item=4541589906

Wh00t, now I can do all my short trips on this instead of in the gashog Suburban (Passports average over 100 miles per gallon).

This has always been my favorite motor scooter. They are very reliable, you don't have to mix oil into the gas, they have that classic look, and they have REAL 17" motorcycle tires instead of those little 10" tires that most scooters have.

Lots of people used to want to throw rocks at me if they would get caught behind me on a one lane uphill road. Passports aren't so hot when going uphill.  ;D

Paige, do you need an actual motorcycle license for that?  That'd be perfect for my runs to the store, but we've got a 49 or 50cc limit, after that you need a license.  My wife'd use it more, but I'd use it too.

Man, I can picture Bones going nuts at me already!  There he is at the light with his Ducati, and here I pull up with something like that...I look over, pedal really hard.... ;D

My father-in-law has a Motobecane I'd like, but he takes it camping....a scooter like that would be cool, instead of the moped type.

I beg to differ.  I was ever so nice to Paige, and won't be telling you guys if I get something similar in the future, unless I get some rock-proof armor, and a wiffle ball to distract the wiffle batters.  Careful, I can throw a mean wiffle curve!

I think I'm looking for a Razz or an older moped, not something like that.  My wife'd prolly kill herself with something like that.

Ok, I got it, it runs great. Needs a headlight (has some sort of shoplight rigged to the basket at the moment), and the turn signals aren't working properly, but overall it is fairly decent. It needs tires too, the motorcycle place had the front one in stock, but they'll have to order the rear one.

These are fast enough to get hurt on, so if you are worried about that then you would probably be better off getting your wife a 49cc one, those are a lot slower.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking...tops on those things are like MAYBE 30-35, depending on wind and if you're going down a hill....plus the fact that she'd need to get a motorcycle license, and I AIN'T teachin' her that!

I never even thought to check e-bay, though, so thanks for the reminder....yah, I know, if it's for sale, you can find some yokel selling it on e-bay, but sometimes it just slips your mind ::)

Paige,

That's a great find, I have a blue 81 c70, and I love it.  Theres something really fun about just running errands on it really quick around town, and it's small enough for my wife to feel comfortable on it (she is planning on getting her motorcycle license this summer so she can legally ride it around).  And it really is great on gas mileage.

I have an old 80 Piaggio Ciao moped too (it's a 49CC engine), and it's fun, but it's not pratical to drive around for errands as most mountain bikes can go faster than it, but the c70's can keep up with traffic around town no problem.

I don't know if you already know about this, but you should join the yahoo c70 group (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Honda-C70/), there is a lot of useful info in there, it will help with alot of the maintenance questions that may arise (helpful bunch).

We put a pinhole leak in the gas tank in order to keep the gas mileage lower, and we remove anything on 'em that might lessen emissions....in fact, if we can get them to run AND burn more oil, we share those tips on message boards like this.

I'd tell you where to find these tips, but they'll revoke my membership, and I've got a lot of pollutin' to do ;D

bones will (hopefully) agree with me- slow bikes are heaps dangerous, so why on earth would you buy your wife a SLOWER one? If shes petite, get her a 600. if shes normal sized get her something bigger. if shes bigger again, well she aint ever gonna fit through the bedroom door no more anyway...

the only place for mopeds from my exsperience is a place like holland where they share the cycle paths. cycle paths even have their own traffic lights there!

AH-HA, I gotcha now! You forgot breaking the pansy, limp-wristed, tree-hugging, commu-nazi speeding laws! Flipping the plate on a bike so you can run a red is way easier than rigging something up in your car...  :police:

Of course, you guys can actually turn on a red *LEGALLY*, so it hardly makes that much of a difference.   ::)

I do and don't agree. At least with power to spare you can get yourself out of trouble in the blink of an eye, but at the same time you can get yourself into heaps of trouble if brain is not corrected to right wrist. Big bikes accelerate MUCH quicker than they can ever stop.

One things for sure, fast bikes are a LOT more fun. Something special happens when you put a 150 horsepower engine on two wheels. Mine could lift the front wheel going from 3rd to 4th gear at around 200km/h.

And lets not quickly dismiss the chick factor when it comes to hot bikes. They love them!

Speaking of turning on red.

In the US can you legally make a left turn on red onto a one way street? It is functionally identical to making a right turn on red onto a normal street.

Well, when I went through drivers ed in 1989 the manual indeed said you could.  It may have been for one-way to one-way only though. (this was in Indiana)
