A strange idea just came to me. (In a dream, no less)

It's a Mario64 type adventure game, but the view is higher up and zoomed out a bit.

If you are leaning toward a puzzle game, but want one with some action, you should look to the original Lemmings games for inspiration.  Those are my all-time favorite puzzle games.

You might also consider doing a simple arcade-style game such as the excellent game Fishy at www.xgenstudios.com

I also dreamed I was having a lucid dream.  The dream itself wasn't lucid, but I dreamed the dream was.  Weird.

I say make what you know and like.  If you play puzzle games, make a puzzle game.  If you play fighting games, make a fighting game.  If you like a genre of game, then you probably know what makes it good (at least for you).

As a side note, I used to be a shareware computer game programmer.  My first and biggest effort was an RPG that I did as a senior in high school.  I played the gold box SSI D&D games, so it was heavily influenced by that.  Anyway, crude as it was, it was one of the first (if not THE first) RPGs for Windows 95, and sold a few hundred copies.  This was in the early WWW days, self-published, and I didn't have a way to accept credit cards, so I consider it a moderate success.  It gave my storywriter and I plenty of play money during our first couple of years of college before tapering off.

mate your in a bit of luck coz my hobby is game makin. if you just want to make games then i suggest you visit www.gamemaker.nl you will find everything you need there. the cool thing about is that it now supports direct x 9 features and you can go 3d. it took me about 3 months before i got to grips with the program. the language is similiar to c+ so if you already know it then it'll be easier for you. theres a forum if you need help or if you want your games seen.

hope this helps!

Well, I absolutely despise windows, so if I make something it will be portable code.  Besides, directX is crap.  Long live openGL!
