You should have been able to move this (assuming you mounted the tube direct to a piece of wood or metal bracing) without removing any wires/discharging, but since that's already been done, that advice won't help.
Without connecting the ground strap and powering up, that definitely wouldn't have applied the 30KV into the tube correctly. The two questions I have related to that are: where was the strap when you first turned it on---was it touching or very close to some other part of the chassis and could it have arc'd and fried something? Second, since you mentioned you removed all the wires, did you get the ground strap properly stretched between 3 of the 4 dog ears making a solid contact against the lower 1/4 of the tube touching the black coating on the tube? If not and just hanging there or completely over labels or something, then it's not making contact with the tube and needs to be fixed.
Crackling is generally caused by the 30KV into the tube. Glow on the other hand is caused basically, by a 6.3 volt "light bulb" (heater) filament inside the neck of the tube next to the electron gun to help jettison the electrons off of it. If it's still glowing then I doubt that you have cracked the tube as it should burn up with the presence of air.
If you did knock the magnets on the back of the tube, they don't affect color, but the positions of where the color goes....in other words alignment/convergence of the guns. You still should get a picture even with one of these broken. Hitting one enough to crack may not crack the tube as they are pretty delicate and often sorta "soft"
So in summary, I tend to think that something shorted when you powered it up without the ground attached, or still do not have the ground attached touching the tube, or possibly cracked the tube letting air in and ruining it.
