27" Tube with out of range ohms for 8liners. Alternatives?
« on: March 27, 2005, 10:34:33 pm »
My father's TV just quit working on him and so he's got a 27" RCA tube sitting there begging me to do something with it.  I measured the ohms on the yoke and they are out of range for a 8liner chassis.  My vertical is 4.5 and horizontal is 1.3 where he requires a 1.5 horizontal and states the vertical should be between 6 to 12 ohms.  Are there any alternatives to an 8liners chassis that may work with this tube?

Buy the Wei-ya chassis from Alva (826H) and the matching yoke from them and do  a yoke swap and reconverge.  The chassis is about $55 and the yoke is about $20 and shipping is about $10... all told ($85), less than the $95+$12 shipping for the Jennshinn 8liners chassis.  However involves more work to swap out the yoke, realign, reconverge, etc...

I may have to give that a shot.  Just the idea of getting a 27" arcade monitor for less than $100 puts a twinkle in my eye.  ;D

hmm.. I'm in the same exact situation.  My 27" tube is also incompatible.  Are there any good step-by-step guides for a yoke-swap, including reconvergence?  Is it difficult to do?

thx,

Download and print out the Electrohome G07 manual or the Wells-Gardner 4900 or 7000 manuals. These detail convergence setup with the yoke and the convergence rings.

Note: The Wei-Ya chassis *REQUIRE* isolation transformers, but the ones that Alva sells appear to only be 85 watts and are too low for most of the WeiYa chassis... I'm trying to track down somewhere that has inexpensive isolation transformers that could handle up to 150 watts and have inexpensive shipping on the beasts...

Ken...any suggestions?  I need to ask BobRoberts how many watts his is.

The usual amusement suppliers like these:

Betson-Imperial
Mazzco
Amusements Plus
Competitive Products
Penn-Ray
Great Amusement Emporioum
Peach State Distributing

They all sell isolation transformers for arcade monitors at reasonable prices. Some of these suppliers have a minimum order policy of $50. They are all much cheaper in shipping than Happ Controls or Wico.
