It's true.  Until then, I have 3 Game Gears, a TurboExpress, a PC Engine GT, 4 Gameboys, a Gameboy Color.  I'm pretty much set for some mobile gaming.

I told myself I wasn't but when I saw the actual size of them and the screen I caved.

I was at Walmart at midnight last night to avoid the Best Buy rush today.

I already purchased several games a few days ago (which is good because stores are getting weird selections - some have everything some have nothing).

After playing it for a few hours last night I suddenly don't mind the price point of the unit or the games at all (I'm still bothered by the price point of the DS games and yes I have one).  They are really PS2 equivalent graphics.

Holding it takes a little getting used to but as soon as you get comfortable with it the controls are great.

I would buy one, but you see, I built this big giant wood cabinet that holds a computer.  And on this computer, there are so many games, I couldn't possibly play them all.  Not to mention construction time that never seems to end.  But if they drop under $50, I'd pick one up.

Picked mine up last night, with a copy of Twisted Metal. I love it, couldnt be happier, and Spiderman 2 the movie looks outstanding.  Big bright screen. As said above a little weird holding it at first. But you get used to it. Now if they would make a tekken for it, I would be in heaven.

I tried a demo unit at Best Buy and I was surprised on how light the thing is and the overall design of the unit.  And the screen looks great and is very clear.

It looks very well made, typical of a Sony product.   But I'm wondering if the format will take off....

I've already got mine. It's... unreal. Words cannot describe how unbelievable it is!  Without a doubt, the must have gadget of the year.  Playing wireless multiplayer with all my buddies was flawless and brilliant.  The screen is absolutely gorgeous and huge!  The controls feel great.  The interface is smooth and sleek.

I've played the the PSP dev-kits and played the PSP a bit at GDC a few weeks ago, so I knew it would be nice... but now that I actually have it, I'm am simply blown away by it.

I told myself that I wasn't going to buy one, but I did.  I thought it would be a lot of hype but it really is that good.

Im really interested to see Nintendos new offerings.... rumblings and rumors state that it wont use Discs... but memory stick like technology and it will rival PSP's graphics... too bad thats years away as it is.

Isn't it supposed to be a portable media player as well?
Have you guys that purchased it fooled around with playing music and movies on it yet?
How do you store your media? Copy from the computer via USB or Firewire or is it wireless or what?

You can use either a USB Type A to MINI B cable to transfer files our you can use a Flash reader that accepts Memory Stick Duo cards.

I snagged one, and a few games. It's killer, the Ridge Racer on it is fantastically fun, and the MP3 and media playback isn't too damn bad either. Now I need a bigger SD card!

do you have to store data on memory sticks or can you buy blank discs?

The data goes on the Memory Sticks.

Which is something I'm curious about.  ???

Will just any Pro DUO memory stick work? Cause I'd like something bigger than the 512MB ones I see PSP branded. Playing with the media functions on this thing makes me like it even more, and with a 1 GB card I can carry enough MP3s and whatnot to make it feel seriously worthwhile to drop a bill on a SD card.

I had no intention of getting one and was only vaguely aware of the specs.

I'm going on a vacation in a couple of weeks and will spend some time in airplane and hotel room with my 6-year old. I was looking at CD players and MP3 players at Target. I was thinking about getting a portable DVD player. I was going to buy a Namco 5-in-1 PacMan for the hotel room. And I'm hauling my old iBook with me on vacation to have enough storage to be able to shuffle photos out of my digital camera each day to make room for more photos. Figured I'd play some Shanghai on the iBook on the plane.

Then it hits me that the PSP might be able to do pretty much all of that for me (music, videos, games, and photo storage). EB Games had a couple of cancellations on pre-orders and therefore had a "Value Pack" for me at $249.99. I'm not even sure what I got with it except Spider Man 2.

I figured I put off an iPod purchase anyway, so maybe the price point isn't too bad afterall.

Now I gotta go learn what I bought and what I got myself into!

Quoting myself. I've learned like 4 things about this toy since posting earlier tonight.

1) I need to buy a 20gig memory stick to make this thing really usable for movies and MP3!

Clicky
http://www.fumanchuu.com/pspdev/

That bodes well for the near-term future. And very straight forward. I was disappointed that the PSP does not have an integrated web browser or FTP client, but it certainly seems like it won't be too long before that stuff appears. Looks like someone will have to write a PC "portal server".

I hope someone writes a better video encoder too. That japanese one works OK, but I'd like to see something kinda like DVD Shrink and something that can write properly named files directly to the memory stick folder structure after encoding.

I'm off to the store to pick up Ridge Racer and Lumines...

I like a million other people was not planning on buying one, but... then I got to play a friends. Sold! It's a dream. I highly suggest at the very least a screen protector. I picked up a rubbery skin at EB Games for 10 bucks that covers the whole unit and comes with a screen protector. It's made by Pelican. The Intec screen protectors are junk. They serve their purpose but don't apply nearly as easily and smoothly as the Pelican. I.E. bubbles and the like.

Wheres the mame port!   ;)

Its just too pricey for me!

Me too. Not arguing that it's a great device, but $250 without so much as a pack in game is just too hefty for me to swallow.
