What's the BEST way to do this????!!!
« on: March 23, 2005, 12:05:42 pm »
I am ALMOST finished with my cab, but I have one question on how to procceed in this matter.

I have an ipac4 and an x-arcade encoder. This way I can use my CP for both PC and console systems. But I am at a loss as to how I am able to hook BOTH oof these up? I have already done a mock-CP with the ipac, so I know I can handle the wiring aspect, but I need to know the following:

1. Would using a D37 2 pos. switch be the best way to go? like this:

Joystick/button --> terminal block-->D37 Cable-->Switch Box Input-->Ipac4 and xarcade

2. Or, is there a way to hook it all up without having to use the switch at all? i.e. both the ipac4 and the xarcade are receiving input like this:

Joystick/button --> terminal block-->leads directly connected to the ipac and xarcade (one positive lead from joy/button into one side of the terminal block and 2 wires attached to the otherside of the terminal block leading to the ipac and xarcade)

3. Or anyother method???????

I have done the wiring for the ipac before so I am capable of connecting wires, BUT, I am in the dark about other electrical know how (voltages, etc.) I don't wanna blow things up, but I want to do this as painlessly as poosible. ANY INPUT would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks Everybody!

why don't you just buy the xarcade PC adapter?

you should be able to sell the ipac for 3x as much as the adapter?  That IS what its good for.

But other then that... I don't know... But many people do it with their dreamcasts... But this requires a bunch of diodes to make sure that the power from one doesn't go into the other... blows one side or the other.

OH MY GOD...........I can't believe I didn't think to just use the xarcade board with the PS/2 connection. THe reason I have the ipac4 is because my cab is 4 player. The xarcade is for 2 players. Maybe I should just connect players 3 and 4 to the ipac, run it in ps/2 mode and plug that into the xarcade board. That way xarcade will drive players 1 and 2 and the ipac will run players 3 and 4. I'll just hook up the ps/2 serial interface on the xarcade out to a DB15 pin switch box with the console adapter to it. That way, I flip a swith and it's ready for sonsole use or PC. I'll give it a go :o
