Dreamcast Arcade Monitor support.
« on: March 21, 2005, 10:47:03 pm »
Ok I need some help guys.

I do not have a vga cable so I have to make one from scratch.

I have a DC VGA box with the correct wire cut. I need some help making a cable to connect from my monitor to the vga box. On my monitor it has r/g/b/h/ground wires and I know to twist the horizontal and vertical wires from the box to the monitor and the r/g/b/ is a srtaight connection. Now with this cable where would I connect the ground coming from the monitor. Wich pin on the vga 15-pin would I connect it to. Do I need to connect it to one pin or should it be connected to several pins like the r/g/b grounds along with the h/v grounds.

Got it. I hooked up monitor ground to pin 10 and walah, I'm a happy man. I have two discolorations in the top right and bottom left corner but I can live with it for now. Next on the list is to connect controls. Thanks for all the info on this site and everyone that helped out.

The coloring problems in the corners sound like your monitor needs to be degaussed.  Either that or you have speakers to close to the monitor.

My cab has a button that takes care of that problem. i thought it was my other cab that only had that feature. I have an astro city and a new astro city.......

They both also have a volume control so would it have an amp itself or would normally is the sound powered from the game board. I am looking for a solution use the existing speakers with the cab and DC.

Trace the L+R sound input from the jamma connector to the sound board, and run a wire from your hacked VGA box to that for sound.  Other than that, you could also buy a SA-155 amp (see ebay) they are small and powerful, and will drive your original 8ohm speakers.

I thought jamma was mono and not stereo. I was hoping i could find a stereo input in this cab. My new astro city has stereo input. the regular astro to my knowledge only accepts mono.

Well does the older astro have 2 speakers or one?  Yes the std jamma spec calls for mono, but later cabs utilize 2 more jamma pins for stereo.  I believe its pins L,10,M,11.  If the older astro has a mono amp in it then you are pretty much screwed and would have to buy an SA-155 like I said previously.

I'll look into the other pins. My cab has 2 speakers in it. But more than likely I will have to buy an amp wich is not a prob really, just trying to utilize what I have already.

Dave. Do you know about Naomi hardware.......

Yeah, I got to do something about that god complex... ;D  joking...

Anyway, thanks.  I recently aquired an Astro City 2 cab that I'm going to overhaul and make into a rad looking dreamcast arcade cabinet...so stay tuned!
