G07 Chassis Replacement (820H with Many Pics)
« on: March 21, 2005, 10:03:31 am »
I recently replaced the non-working chassis on my Electrohome G07 19" monitor with a new replacemant from Wei-Ya (model 820H high impedance chassis replacement).  I thought I'd post pictures of the results.  I'm not ecstatic about the results because of some major pincusioning but it's better than a non working monitor.  Judge for yourself.

Pics of Chassis installed:

Actually to eliminate the pincushioning problem completely, Alva Amusement also sells the yoke for the 820H as part number HA-058 (only $18). So all you'd do is swap yokes.

Thanks Ken.  I may go ahead and order it.  The price on the chassis was so good, an extra $18 isn't going to kill me....although I may have some questions when I do the yolk swap.

I finally just got around to emailing Alva a RFQ on the 826 and 1220H with shipping.

I also added a PS asking them for their current pricing on the yokes for the 1220, 820 and 826.

As soon as they respond I will post the details here.

As far as your pincushion, it's a LOT better than the pincushion I got with the 8liners Low Impedence chassis on a K4600 yoke!  ( http://www.oscarcontrols.com/chassis -- unfortunately it's still "hacked")  Still it's worse than I could personally live with and would scrounge around for a better yoke.

I will be ordering the low impedence and repeating the multi-tube swap-a-thon on the 1220 and could update my results when I get a chance.   I gotta ping Kelsey and get his page fixed though :(

WoW!  $70 for the 826? That blows 8liners and Video1963 out of the water that want $95 each + $12 shipping. And $16 less then than 1qty pricing on their web site.

The 1220 at $64 is $6 less than their web 1qty pricing. 8Liners and Video1963 want $65+$12 shipping. I'd rather deal with Alva..

I wish they had the 825 as Ken suggested but will try the 826 on the 23" tube of my friend, and if it works will be back to order another one for him, and one for my 25" tube once I find a replacement yoke.

I also got in contact with Kelsey who will fix the chassis link as soon as I resend him the lost index.html file due to the hacker :(  I will do that tonight.

I wish yours had the pincusion control to aid you in fixing that warp.  I have a wide range of yoke ohms for low impedence so will try that... 8, 10, 13, 14, 15 so I should be able to find a good match!

Well, I got an email reply. They only take Visa/Mastercard, no Discover, no money orders. (Therefore I will have to call in the order of course---well, email and call with my Visa #)

I got a similarily worded email. However a SIGNIFICANT price difference

I am surprised (and delighted!) to see such reasonable prices on these chassis and parts. Nice to see that the appropriate yokes are available.

Update: Like 8liners and Video1963, there does appear to be a slight communication issue.  I'm sure I'll get it resolved but just another bump in the road.

I emailed my RFQ and they responded yesterday. I replied back with shipping info and phone # and asked when I could call their phone number to give them my CC info and what I needed to give them (order #, name, etc..)

This morning, after I came to work, my fiance got a call at home saying "the chassis people called...a Japanese woman".   Unfortunately they hadn't replied before then and I was already at work (and I can't place long distance call to them at work and gave them my home phone) Luckily I had told her I ordered, but I didnt tell her it was okay to give CC info.

After they called they emailed me saying "to make it easier..lets just ship COD for extra $7.50".  I replied saying the same thing as yesterday.. I'd call them at 1:30pm Eastern time while I was on lunch hour at home and give them my credit card info at that time. (or if they called back, my fiance had my card info)

Anyway, I'm sure it will be resolved, but a few simple short statements of when to call turned into them wanting to ship COD (which would have been worse as no one would be avaiable when they deliver and would have to schedule a pickup at the depot 10 miles away :( )

Calling was definately easier.  No offense to anyone on this board from the area, but maybe it's a Miami problem.  8liners, Video, and Alva are all based there...hmm...interesting.

The sad part about this thread is that I have 4 g07's each with a good chassis and horribly burned tubes.

How do you find non burned g07's??????????

If the chassis work and you're happy with the picture quality (my 2 old G07 are not the greatest and have width/height/humm bar issues) then simply (heh :) ) do a tube swap...

Take a TV tube pull off the yoke and magnets, put on the G07 yoke, reattach the original magnets from the TV tube (NOT the g07 tube), reconverge and tada-- Unburned G07.

Last 3 tv's I tried that with either had the wrong pin count, or that funky combo yoke/rings assembly.

1 Looks kinda ok, except it appears to have a slightly shorter tube which make perfect convergence impossible.

(I used the rings off the original tube since the combo yoke fell apart when I tried to remove the convergence rings)

Kinda like a small folding at the 4 corners, that tube is around 1 inch shorter than the original g07.

Order update: Called and got a hold of my email contact (on hold about 60 seconds). Gave her my info and she said it would go out later today or tomorrow.

Also significant update!!  I should have GOOGLED earlier.  I think I found out what's up with the lower prices.  The BellSouth site that Wakerlet found must be really old.  Look at this site:

http://alvaamusement.com/_wsn/page4.html

However, I couldn't find ANY ordering information links, etc.. on that site.

Also, I now see that they have the 825H1 listed there, not just the 826H (that I ordered for the 23" tube)..... Ken---is there going to be any difference between the two? What could it possibly be?  I'd assume that the 25 would possibly have a higher yoke resistance (something I wouldn't want anyway..since I have a lower one on the 23?)  Any ideas?  I dont want to go through the hassle of changing my order from the 826 to the 825... plus they only list a 826 yoke in case we need to swap or something.

Probably had a higher deflection angle of 100 (thus shorter tube) and therefore you'd never be able to adjust it correctly. Did it say 19V100 etched in the glass or written somewhere instead of 19V90?

I can't find the 826 on Wei-ya's site to look at the specs, but an educated guess would say what you've got on the way should work.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but $6.00 for a jamma harness HA-01 seems like a steal.

I'll post full reviews in a week or so (very busy lately), however I received the 826 and the 1220 yesterday.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the neckboard and remote board are just "tossed in" on top of the chassis (826), this provides opportunity to break stuff in shipment, which is exactly what happened --- the large horizontal width coil was broken from all 4 solder points.  The 826's is vertical, just like a classic G07 chassis, rather than horizontal like their other chassis.

Luckily it was a clean break, and it appears that I can simply reinsert it into the hole and reflow the solder (and check numerous other components for potential damage at the same time--i noticed a corner of the black component (thermal control) next to the degaussing coil was broken on the shell, but not a cause for alarm.).

The 826 does have a pincushion control which is nice to see.   I will be trying out the 826 on the 23" tube this weekend, and hopefully getting to repeat the multi-tube swap a thon on the 19" in about 2 weeks.  First order of business is to hack off the ac cords and replace with proper connectors lest I forget this isnt a JennShinn and plug it in directly :(

Not necessarily Alva... they used a double thick corregated box and filled it with peanuts (though they are an inexperienced shipper--you don't use peanuts to fill and place the boxes tight against the edge.. you place the content in the center then use the peanuts to PAD)

The problem was this could have been broken before it even got to them.  It's WeiYa's fault for not placing an extra flat piece of styrofoam above the main chassis components before laying the anode wire, ground wire, yoke wire, signal wire, neckboard AND on the 826, the heavy remote adjustment board with 20 wire bundle---on top of the extra packing.

In any case, it's fixable without sending back.. I think.  I will post pictures later summarizing what it looks like on the 23".

So I only ding Alva "slightly" for not inspecting first/improving the mfg box.   (As you can tell, I've shipped thousands of items over the years--I was big into eBay in 1997 through 2001---I know how to correctly pack to prevent any routine damage.  I cant protect against a tire running over something, but know how to pack to prevent handling problems breaking stuff)

I posted a separate thread about the 1220H (low impedence Wells Gardner K4600 style replacement)

Will do another one on the 826H (23-27" replacement) in a day or so.
