What's the deal with pinching people that aren't wearing green? I'm getting pinched to death here, where did this bizarre custom come from? I'm thinking that it was the same guy that made up the 'you have to put a clementine or coal in your Christmas stocking' thing.

I spent the first 23 years of my life living in Ireland, and I never heard of the 'you have to wear green on St.Patricks day' law. Also, I have never eaten corned beef and cabbage, I never lived in a castle, I can eat food other than potatoes and I believe that drinking green beer is a crime. Oh, and I've never seen a car bombing either and I think ordering a drink that's named after such a horrific act should be punishable by castration.

St Patrick's day is for ---daisies---. So is St. Valentines Day.

According to the index of Bizarre American Holidays http://library.thinkquest.org/2886/

Today is: Submarine Day!

We should be spending today remembering the u-boat crewmen that gave their lives for freedom, then eat at Quiznos. They have a pepper bar.

That's how I celebrate every holiday! Especially the holidays of Monday, Tues, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday is for spending time w/ family and friends. On Sunday, I usually rest.

Today is also Evacuation Day- I think it might only be celebrated in Boston/Suffolk County, I couldn't find too much about it online. I'm not sure exactly what Evacuation Day is, I think it might be the day we celebrate the end of British occupation. Anyone know?

My wife gets the day off today and is at present at home preparing me a great feast. Or so I like to believe.

Edit:
Never mind, I found this page that explains all.

Its the day where everyone there evacuates their house and "bunkers down" in their local bar or tavern.

For safety reasons of course.

I'll knock back a few standard colored beers this evening in honor of my Irish Catholic roots.
