Cocktail Project Underway ( NEW PICS )
« on: March 16, 2005, 06:37:07 pm »
New cocktail project underway.  I purchased a kit from www.arcadedepot.com and a big thanks out to Scott for putting up with my neverending emails, a great guy to deal with.
I'll post pictures as I progress here, but will also get the web page going.  Here are the
main pieces so far.  I also have a piece of tempered glass that Scott sent to me
accidentally and he told me to keep it as a gift.  Not sure if the coin door is going to
fit in there with the mechs, but time will tell.

Thanks,

Tim

I'll take some pics for you...... 1 1/2" poplar board on bottom......3/4" x 2"
mounted long side towards the monitor and holes predrilled and mounted with 5/16" wood lag screws..  Extremely strong, just be
careful drilling the pilot holes the you don't go through the top or the back, I did....luckily it was the back

Vader88,

What kind of monitor did you end up using?  Can you post the pics of the monitor mount?

I have bought an arcadedepot kit and I am trying to decide on a monitor purchase.

Thx,
-Dweebs

Here's the monitor mounts and watch how you spell my name  ;D, hehe j/k.....

The monitor is a Happs VisionPro CGA horizontal mount that I picked up from
arcadeshop.com and I am quite pleased with it

Spelling corrected on the name.  (shheeeshh)

Dumb question.  Not alot of action on the monitor forum.

CGA vs SVGA?  For a Mame machine, any difference?  Happs is selling a CGA monitor for pretty cheap compared to the SVGA.

Edit:  No longer on sale.  I guess I'll check out arcadeshop.com.  How expensive was shipping?

And I am curious about if it would be okay for my purposes.

B/c it is a cga, were you forced to use a VGA hack cable and arcade vga?  or does it interface directly with the video card.

Thx,
-Dweebs

If your going to be using it primarily for a MAME machine, CGA is all you need.  If you plan on using some windows apps or playing pc based games, you may wan't to go the hybrid route although that will up the price quite a bit.  I do have to use windows on occasion and have the desktop set to 640x288 which is clear, but icons and text are very big.

Arcadeshop is very reasonble, 179.00 for the monitor and shipping was like 16-17 bucks ( I'm in FL, so I was pretty close, your mileage may vary the amount ), but still under 200.00 I would think, as with Happs, it's a guessing game till after you order.

I did use a Vga hacked cable, I purchased a ArcadeVga and hacked cable from Ultimarc at the
same time and was floored by the quality of the games.

Thanks for the info.  I may go with this monitor.

I want to use Linux on the box but the Radeon drivers are so-so at best.

Anyone using an Arcade VGA with Linux?  Wondering how things went.

I have this monitor in my Q*bert. The picture is awesome. I got it on sale at Happs for $150. Shipping was $18.

They put them on sale like 4 times a year.

It will, these kits are extremely easy to work with.  Couple of things worth noting :

1.  Have very sharp bits and put a piece of wood on the inside when you drill your speaker holes or other holes as the wood will chip and splinter and give you a bad look on the inside.

2.  Make sure you install fans, it gets very, very hot inside these things.

Thanks for the tips.  I'm actually just about to do those cutouts.  I have 4 standard midway speaker grills I ordered from Arcadeshop.com that I was planning on using as both fan covers and speaker grills.  I hop enough air can pass through them to keep things cool.  I also bought 4 Vantec 80mm fans for the inside.  One on the floor, 2 on the sides and one on the monitor chassis itself.  I think that's plenty but again I'm concerned with air getting in and out due to the speaker grills (although there will be nothing covering the bottom floor fan so that's like 4.5 inches of uninterrupted flow... facing the floor :))

Just make sure your have one side sucking and one side blowing ( have fun with that line guys ) .  I've seen alot of people just do intake fans with no way to exaust.  I have the midwa grills and air gets in just fine.  You also might want to get some filters so you don't get alot of dust in there
