dreamcast 15khz help (CVS2)
« on: March 15, 2005, 04:58:35 am »
hi all,

i have a couple questions about hooking up my dc to my arcade monitor w/ the vga hack. the monitor is coming from an "astro city" japanese candy cab. i believe this monitor is a nanao, and can display std and med res. please correct me if i'm wrong.

questions:
1) i've heard that certain games like street fighter 3 and virtua fighter don't really display well on the arcade monitor, due to interlacing (or lack of it???). does this apply to the game CAPCOM vs SNK 2?

2) can you really see the difference b/t 15khz and 31khz?
3) does capcom vs snk 2 display 15 or 31khz in the arcades?
4) are there any ways around this display problem w/ sf3?

thanks alot guys, this will put my mind to ease after getting some answers

1) SF3 3rd Strike, VF3tb, and CVS2 all play fine on my arcade monitor at 15khz
2) You won't notice much of a diference
3) CVS2 is a Naomi title which can play at either 15khz or 31khz.  All the arcades I've seen running this were on 15khz monitors.
4) there is no problem

I have herd of issues with SF3 Double Impact (or one of the older ones?) being intelaced...actually its interlaced in the fact that it renders every other line (in the software)...its not dependand on an interlaced monitor at all.  So at 31khz this game looks like crap with these scanlines.

Pretty easy to spot, as the only cabs I've seen in the US arcades that support 31khz is the Sega Naomi Universal cab (also known as the Net City).  Most arcades got this cab with Tennis 2k2.
