MameWAH vs. MAME 32: clarity, resolution
« on: March 12, 2005, 12:55:17 pm »
I'm using and AVGA card on a WG D-9200 monitor.

When running MAME32, every game is CRYSTAL CLEAR, bright and beautiful.

Out of MameWAH, most games look blurry, fuzzy, even dim.

I used the AVGA resolution tool to generate INI files for all the games.

Does MAME32 have some other option or filter setting that is making the games look SO much better?

In Mamewah, it almost looks like an attemt at anti-alaising or something. It's on my nerves. Any help appreciated.

(Otherwise I'm loving Mamewah).

It isn't MAMEWAH. It's MAME itself. Check the INI, disable stretching, etc. There are a few FAQs around that'll get you where you need to be.

If someone can point out a FAQ that covers this I'll gladly read it. I thought I'd seen them all...

Well, let me simply post my MAME INI file. Compare these video options to yours; I'll wager that the problem will be pretty evident. I'll look around for the FAQ just to make sure. Good luck!

effect=sharp was one difference and it helped a little bit, but the games are still blurry. For example, Robotron launched out of MAMEwah is clear in the center of the screen, but has vertical bars of blurry area one-third in from each side.

If I drop out of Mamewah and run it from the command line, it's drop-dead perfect.

EDIT:

Duh! I had dorked around with my mame.ini file in Mamewah. It's fine now. Sorry, thanks!!!

thanks for the ini, just what I needed.

-edit-  i figured out i needed to turn on triple buffer to eliminate "tearing"

Is it possible to turn off slowdown in mame?  In nebula it's easy to do the cpu overclock thing and not have any slowdown.

I guess if I could get nebula to display properly I would just use that, but it's giving the "blurry" picture (interlaced I think) and none of the resolution filters looks good.

I can't beleive I actually thought about using a regular TV with svideo instead of a real arcade monitor...
